There has been a significant increase in the number of inquiries, bookings and sales of electric vehicles in the country, especially in the two- and three-wheeler segment, even as EV manufacturers are agitated over the likely end of subsidies under the Faster Adoption and Program for Production of (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME-II) after March 31.
The central government is encouraging the sale of electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers under the FAME-II scheme, which ends in March. Subsidies under the scheme would be available for electric vehicles sold until March 31, 2024, or until funds are exhausted.
