Emotional moment woman surprises her family after a year in Australia

A video has captured the emotional moment when an Irish woman surprised her family with her secret return from Australia.

Emma Priestley left her hometown of Dublin, Ireland last July to travel down, but arrived home earlier than expected last Friday.

No one knew Emma was coming back except for her best friend, so the 25-year-old decided to surprise her family by showing up unexpectedly on their doorstep.

Her father Alan, 54, was stunned when he realized who his impromptu visitor was after he opened the door.

Alan said ‘You’re kidding’ before yelling to female Denise, 53, inside, ‘Denno, someone’s at the door.’

Alan then stepped outside and hugged his daughter in a tight hug before Emma’s sister Kim, 30, appeared with her newborn, breaking down in tears at the sight of her sibling.

Emma was soon surrounded by her sisters, cousins and mother who all lined up to hug and kiss her.

The majority were left with their hands over their mouths in a combination of both shock and joy.

Emma said: ‘My family was my biggest support in my decision, even though they knew they would miss me very much, we are a very close family.

“I had recently told them I wasn’t coming home until next year, so it was a complete shock to see me at the front door when I showed up.

‘I decided to move to Australia because I’d seen so many other Irish people do it and loved it and stayed there, it’s such a great lifestyle, not to mention the weather is great.

“But I also wanted to move for personal growth, I had to get out of my comfort zone and see what else was out there.

‘I moved to Perth in Western Australia – absolutely beautiful beaches and beautiful people.

“Australia is so far away and I know we have FaceTime and everything, but it’s hard being away from your family.

‘I loved Australia, but the hardship of going it alone dawned on me, and when my two sisters just had two new babies, I decided it was time to come home and not stay another year.

‘They’re never all there on Friday. I thought it would just be my mom, but my dad had taken a week off from work.

“My oldest sister and brother-in-law had been out the night before, so my mom and dad were babysitting her two babies, so they were there to pick up the kids and were about to leave.

“My other older sister had come down with her two babies and my little sister had no work, it was a Friday and no one is ever there on a Friday, but the universe worked its magic and had everyone there.”
