Emotional moment when a woman is reunited with her dog after he was rescued from a sewer line after being trapped for seven hours

A heartwarming video shows the emotional moment when a woman hugs her mischievous dog after it was trapped in a sewer pipe for seven hours.

Spike the Jack Russell went missing from his owners’ back garden in Buckfastleigh, Devon at about 3pm on Thursday.

After a search, they discovered that the pup could be heard barking from a sewer line and called the fire department.

Teams from Buckfastleigh Fire Station and Newton Abbott Fire Station soon arrived after being diverted from a drill on South Devon Railway.

Amazingly, after deploying their “snake eye” camera to locate Spike within the 100-meter pipe network, the teams finally found Spike 45 meters from the entrance to the pipe.

A video shows the moment when the team managed to persuade Spike to crawl backwards through the pipe, before he was eventually pulled back by the team.

A Buckfastleigh fire station spokesperson said: ‘On arrival we were met by Spike’s owners who said he had been missing from his garden since about 3pm and during the search they could hear him barking into the pipe.

“The officer in charge asked our colleagues from Newton Abbot Fire Station to join us so we could use their snake eye camera to try and get a picture of how far and what pipe he was stuck in.

“The pipe system was about 100 meters long with many pipes meeting at different points.

“After placing the camera at all possible entry points and digging an inspection trench, we found another inspection pit in the center of the field and here we saw Spike wedged in the pipe about 150 feet from the pit entrance.

Fortunately, Spike saw the light at the end of the camera as his way out into the dark and with some urging from his owners he slowly but surely managed to back up inches until he could be grabbed.

“Spike was unharmed after being trapped for more than seven hours, a little smelly and tired from his adventure, but back with his family.”
