Emmy Rossum, 36, reveals what she REALLY thinks about playing Tom Holland’s mother in The Crowded Room – despite an age difference of just NINE YEARS
The decision to cast 36-year-old Emmy Rossum as the mother of 27-year-old Tom Holland in The Crowded Room has sent shock waves.
And while the casting has caused a stir, the Shameless actress has insisted the choice “makes sense” for her character in the show, a psychological thriller set in the 1970s that tells the story of the arrest of a young man.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Emmy spoke about the controversy, saying, “It makes sense when I read the script…
‘[My character] Candy is a super young mother, almost a child in her own right when she becomes pregnant at the age of 16. You see how I age from 25 to 35, which is actually younger than I am now.’
While discussing the upcoming show, which will soon be airing on Apple TV, she gushed about her onscreen relationship with co-star Zachary Golinger, who plays a younger version of Tom’s character Danny Sullivan.

Uh oh: And while the casting has caused a stir, the Shameless actress has insisted the choice “makes sense” for her character in the show, a psychological thriller set in the 1970s that tells the story of the arrest of a young man.
There they are! Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Emmy spoke about the controversy, saying, “It makes sense when I read the script” (Tom and Emmy were pictured at the show’s premiere last week along with co-star Amanda Seyfried)
She said: ‘Our relationship was so beautiful, and so I knew everything we had that I had lost in the scenes with Tom. [It] was really fun’.
The development of The Crowded Room was revealed to the public when it was announced in April last year that Holland was attached to the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will use an anthology, with each season focusing on a different topic.
It was also reported that the program would “explore the true and inspiring stories of those who struggled and learned to live successfully with mental illness.”

The first season of the program is based on the non-fiction novel The Minds of Billy Milligan, which first appeared in 1981.
The book was about the person of the same name, who became the first person in United States history to be acquitted of a felony after being diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder.
Tom plays the main character of the season, Daniel, while Emmy plays his warring mother Candy. Amanda Seyfried plays a character named Rya, a clinical psychologist and single mother.
Other artists who will appear in the series include Sasha Lane, Jason Isaacs, and Emma Laird.
