The list of nominations for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards was full of surprises, including the high-profile rejections of four Oscar-winning actresses.
While stars like Jennifer Aniston and Selena Gomez received recognition for their work, Nicole Kidman, Emma Stone and Kate Winslet surprisingly fell outside the nominees.
Stone, who starred opposite Nathan Fielder in The Curse on Paramount+, didn’t receive a nomination for her hilarious performance, and Kidman also didn’t get a nomination for her role in Expats on Amazon Prime.
In response to a tweet announcing that the La La Land actress, who won her second Oscar in March, had been snubbed, one fan wrote: “She was AMAZING. No one does it better than her.”
Winslet, who plays Elena Vernham in The Regime, a dictator who precariously rules a fictional Central European country, also surprisingly missed out on Best Actress in a Drama Series.

Kelsey Grammer, who already has four Emmys to her name, received no recognition for her return to Dr. Frasier Crane.
Michael Douglas was also passed over, despite critical acclaim for his performance in Franklin on AppleTV+.
John Mulaney, host of the talk show John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s In LA, failed to win the battle for best talk show series.
Sean Evans’ talk show Hot Ones also failed to receive a nomination.
This year, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel Live! will compete for the prestigious statuette.
Emmy-winning actors Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale announced the nominees during a live press conference from Disney’s El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on Wednesday morning.
The Bear set a new record for nominations in a single year in the Comedy category with 23 (previously held by 30 Rock with 22 nominations in 2009), and Shōgun leads the Drama category this year with 25 nominations.
Nominations for Best Comedy Series went to Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Only Murders In The Building, Palm Royale, Reservation Dogs and What We Do In The Shadows.
After the Emmy nominations were announced on Wednesday, the internet was quick to respond to some of the awards show’s biggest snubs, including three Oscar-winning actresses (Kate Winslet, due February 2024)

Baby Reindeer, Fargo, Lessons In Chemistry, Ripley and True Detective were nominated for Best Limited Anthology Series or Movie.
For Best Actress in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie, the nominations were: Jodie Foster for True Detective, Brie Larson for Lessons in Chemistry, Juno Temple for Fargo, Sofia Vergara for Griselda and Naomi Watts for Feud.
The award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Short Series, Anthology Series or Movie went to Matt Bomer for Fellow Travelers, Richard Gadd for Baby Reindeer, Jon Hamm for Fargo, Tom Hollander for Feud and Andrew Scott for Ripley.
The award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series went to Jennifer Aniston for The Morning Show, Carrie Coon for The Gilded Age, Maya Erskine for Mr and Mrs Smith, Ana Sawai for Shogun, Imelda Stanton for The Crown and Reese Witherspoon for The Morning Show.

The award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series went to Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary, Ayo Edebiri for The Bear, Selena Gomez for Only Murders In The Building, Maya Rudolph for Loot, Jean Smart for Hacks and Kristen Wiig for Palm Royale.
The nominees for Outstanding Reality Competition Program went to Amazing Race, RuPaul Drag Race, Top Chef, The Traitors and The Voice.
Host Ralph, who received the Emmy nominations, was surprised at the end of the announcement ceremony by Cris Abrego with her third nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Abbott Elementary.
The Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15.
There is no known host yet.
This year’s ceremony will take place less than a year after the show’s 75th edition.

The performance took place last January, after its planned September 2023 date was postponed due to writers’ and actors’ strikes.
Cris Abrego gave the first introduction and said that the nominated shows will air from June 2023 to May 2024.
He then introduced Ralph and Hale to the stage.
As previously announced, Emmy Award winners Jesse Collins and Dionne Harmon, along with Emmy nominee Jeannae Rouzan-Clay of Jesse Collins Entertainment, will return as executive producers of the 76th Annual Emmy Awards. This marks their second consecutive year as producers of television’s biggest night.
This is the second year in a row that they have produced the biggest television evening.
