‘It’s kind of Ross and Rachel’: Emmerdale actor Lawrence Robb compares Mackenzie and Charity’s relationship to sitcom Friends

Emmerdale’s Lawrence Robb compared his character Mackenzie Boyd and Charity Dingle’s relationship to the sitcom Friends on Tuesday.

In the current soap opera plot, Mack cheats on his fiancée Charity (Emma Atkins) with Chloe (Jessie Elland), who is having her baby after a one-night stand.

The 31-year-old actor compared the couple’s relationship to Ross and Rachel’s on-and-off romance on the hit US TV series, but admitted he “doesn’t approve” of the cheating.

In Friends, Rachel Green (played by Jennifer Aniston) is tricked by her boyfriend Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), when he assumes that ‘being on a break’ means he can sleep with another woman.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on her ITV chat show, Lawrence said: “I don’t approve of what he did, but he’s kind of Ross and Rachel.” [on Friends].’

Emmerdale viewers know that Mack is currently keeping one of the village’s biggest secrets, with his upcoming wedding to Charity at the same time that Chloe is due to give birth to their son.

Mack has spent months lying to Charity and treating Chloe horribly in an effort to prevent Charity from finding out that she is pregnant by Mackenzie.

Ever since finding out she was expecting a baby with Mack, Chloe has kept the identity of her child’s father a secret, in an attempt to avoid Charity’s wrath.

The comments come after Lawrence revealed that he’s glad his character is upsetting fans.

But while it has left some fans furious and they have mistaken the actor for the character, making their attacks on him personal.

Fortunately, he explained that he knows that strong opinions and reactions from viewers are a positive thing.

Talking with him Meterhe said, “You need to take the hard and the soft with that kind of thing and just know that what you’re doing as a character is a good job, because it’s creating these reactions in viewers, so I guess that’s a good thing.”

He also opened up about his story, admitting that he was surprised at how it turned out after Noah stalked Chloe.

Lawrence said: “The irony is that Mackenzie was very involved in helping Noah get over it when he was involved in the bullying, and then he does what he does,” he said.

‘So yeah, it was surprising but juicy. I think when we finished the script of us sleeping together, I don’t think we knew it was going to end with a pregnancy. That was another bombshell that it’s really fun to play with that way and see how the characters deal with the arc of it all.

He explained that although he doesn’t support his character’s actions, he enjoys playing him and just does what’s written in the script, like all actors.
