Among them was a shocking affair with his stepsister Kelly and fathering a child with Zoe Tate.
After leaving the Dales behind, Ben landed a string of West End roles including Fiyero in Wicked, Prince in Romeo and Juliet and Warner in the final cast performances of Legally Blonde: The Musical.
In April 2019, he returned to the soap world with a guest starring role on Doctors, before taking on the villainous Caleb on EastEnders in 2021.

Blast from the past! He originally starred as heartthrob Scott Windsor on Emmerdale from 1998 to 2007, causing a stir among soap fans with a slew of steamy storylines.
This was just the beginning of a dramatic time for Ben, who was subsequently charged with raping a 16-year-old girl in Barbados before being acquitted.
Then, in 2013, he was accused of infidelity again after he was pictured openly kissing and hugging his West End co-star Gina Beck.
Ben started his acting career with the role of Chris Longworth on the children’s TV show Grange Hill, but he was best known as Emmerdale bad boy Scott Windsor.
He played the role from 1998 to 2007, when his career was derailed by allegations that he raped a 16-year-old girl.
The fallout would leave the actor in financial ruin and be forced to mortgage his home in Leeds ‘to the hilt’ to pay his £200,000 defense costs after losing his £100-a-year Emmerdale salary.
Ben had admitted having sex with a 16-year-old British girl on a beach chair while on holiday with his two younger sisters and stepfather in November 2006, but always vehemently denied raping her.
He spoke of his “relief” at finally being acquitted of all charges by a jury, but also of his “anger” at having endured two years of hell.
My feelings are a mixture of anger, joy and relief. I don’t really feel lucky. I’m angry because I was accused of rape in the first place and I never did it,” he told the Sunday Mirror.

Rape is the most heinous thing that can be accused of. It is one of the most heinous crimes and if you are accused of it as a famous figure, it is magnified a hundred times. It’s true that I lost two years of my life.’
However, he admitted that he is not entirely innocent.
“I don’t absolve myself of all guilt. I didn’t do anything illegal, but it was very stupid. Having sex with a 16-year-old girl in a clearing was naive and immature,” he said.
