At last! Emmerdale showrunner Jane Hudson has given fans a glimpse of upcoming soap opera storylines that will captivate viewers, including a summer romance for the unlucky-in-love Belle.

During her appearance on the panel, Jane explained that the main story that will dominate the screens in the coming weeks will be the fight for Paddy’s mental health.

Thursday’s hour-long episode sees him disappear from town, prompting a huge search by his loved ones.

Jane explained: ‘Many men struggle to say that when they are in trouble, they suffer in silence.

“We hope that when they see Paddy’s journey they realize that someone is right there. I think for us if telling this story makes a man his today, then it was a story worth telling.”

Jane also explained that this will be a long road for Paddy as he struggles to overcome his depression.

She added: ‘There will be light at the end of the tunnel for Paddy, but we need to show the story to the fullest. It takes time, we will see Paddy go on that journey to find himself again.

‘If you just try to put a story in your soap opera, it will never work. It has to come from your characters and connect with your viewers.’

It looks like this could lead to some explosive scenes if Charity finds out the truth before she walks down the aisle.

“Just wait and see, but it’s not all hearts and flowers on the wedding day.”

Viewers have also witnessed a moving story with teenager Arthur Thomas, after he came out as gay, with the full support of his friends and family.

Praising the plot, Jane said: ‘It’s been such a lovely story. It’s not just a story about coming out as gay, it’s a story about teenage love, teenage angst.”

Fuming: Viewers have also been anxiously awaiting the moment when Charity finds out that her fiancé Mack has fathered a child with Chloe Harris.
