‘I am so proud of him!’ Emmerdale fans delighted as teen Marshall stands up to his furious homophobic father Colin as he tries to force him to ‘find God’ and ‘live not a life of sin’
Emmerdale fans were elated on Friday’s episode as Marshall Hamston took on his irate homophobic father Colin.
Teen Marshall (Max Fletcher) was disowned and emotionally and physically abused by parent Colin (Mark Noble) for his sexuality when he came out as gay.
Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) found out how Colin had treated Marshall when she saw Marshall’s bruised arms, and took the youngster in to live with her and Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson).
On the anniversary of his mother’s death, a drunken Marshall left a heartfelt voting note for his father Colin, but it was completely ignored by Colin.
When Marshall was hospitalized with alcohol poisoning, his father came to the hospital, desperate to know if his son was okay, but instead preached a religious message to cover up his intolerance, insisting that Marshall’s agony a sign from God was that he should live a “clean” life and not act on his same-sex attraction.

Marshall came to realize that his father was not going to change, and when Colin arrived at Mulberry Cottage hoping that his message had encouraged his son to change his way of life, he was shocked when Marshall bravely exclaimed, “I’m gay,” again.
He told a furious Colin that he had to keep his sexuality “hidden” for a long time, something he didn’t want to keep doing.
Colin blamed Laurel for hitting back, telling him to “shame on.”
Viewers took to Twitter to express their delight at Marshall standing up for himself, while condemning Colin for his treatment of his son.
