Emma Stone jokingly called her friend, Taylor Swift, a jerk at the 81st annual Golden Globes on Sunday.

The Poor Things star, 35, had words for the singer, 34, after giving her a standing ovation when she won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy.

“What an a**hole, am I right?” she said backstage at the awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

“I've known her for almost 20 years, so I was really happy she was there,” she continued teasingly. “And she was nominated tonight too, which was great, and yeah, what an a**hole.”

The Bad Blood hitmaker was nominated for the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award for her Eras Tour concert film, but lost out to Barbie.

Swift wasn't the only one excited about Stone's win, as Jennifer Lawrence also cheered enthusiastically moments after she threatened to walk out if she didn't win.

The No Hard Feelings star, 33, was also nominated in the same category and had told the camera before the winner was announced: “If I don't win, I'm leaving.”

When her longtime boyfriend was mentioned, she was seen clapping and even calling Stone “mom.”

Other nominees in their category were Margot Robbie for Barbie, Fantasia Barrino for The Color Purple, Natalie Portman for May December and Alma Pöysti for Fallen Leaves.

The award was Stone's second Golden Globe, as the eight-time nominee previously took home the award for her performance in the 2016 musical romance film La La Land.

Stone and Swift have been long-time supporters of each other as the songwriter was pictured at the Poor Things premiere in New York City last month.

Stone also revealed that she was cheering on Swift at her Eras Tour concert after attending a total of three shows “so far” while she was performing The Graham Norton Show last week.

She also recalled the story of how they met and how their friendship developed over the years.

Stone also revealed that she was cheering on Swift at her Eras Tour concert after attending a total of three shows “so far” when she appeared on The Graham Norton Show last week. They met and became friends about twenty years ago; seen in April 2008

“We met at something they called the Young Hollywood Awards in LA,” she explained. “And we've kept in touch ever since and become good friends.”

In an interview with Vanity fair Published in June 2023, Stone also opened up about her friend, saying she was grateful to be able to attend (her first) Eras Tour concert, which she called “pretty amazing.”

“I've known her since we were 17 and 18, so she set me up, which was really nice because I know those tickets are impossible to get,” she said of their friendship.

She added that Swift is “an amazing friend” before praising her work ethic: “I've never seen anything like it.”
