The New York Mets hosted the San Diego Padres in game one of their National League Wild Card series on Friday at Citi Field in Queens, New York.
Among the fans who witnessed all the front row action was actress Emma Stone and her husband, comedian and director Dave McCary.
There is no doubt that McCary, a resident of San Diego, and Stone incited some of the Mets faithful in their area where they sat by cheering on the Padres.
Padre fans beaming: Emma Stone, 33, and husband Dave McCary, 37, laughed for much of the evening as they attended the first game of the NL Wild Card series between the New York Mets and San Diego Padres in Queens, New York City, on Friday
The couple, who were both decked out in Padres gear, including hats and coats, didn’t have to wait long to cheer.
San Diego jumped out to a two-run lead in the very first inning on a homerun by Josh Bell off Mets trump pitcher Max Scherzer.
They would add another run to take a 3-none lead in the second inning when Trent Grisham went deep for a solo home run, again off Scherzer.
At times, the ESPN broadcast showed the reaction of Stone and McCary, both of whom beamed with joy for much of the game.
Fanatic: The Academy Award-winning actress was able to hold back her joy when she gave Padres a two-run lead in the first inning
Outburst: A four-run fifth inning, culminating in a Manny Machado home run off dejected Mets trump pitcher Max Scherzer, would give the Padres a comfortable 7-none lead
Cheering like a New Yorker: By the time the Padres had a head start, Stone, 33, felt confident and could be seen screaming onto the field, with her husband proudly watching
A fifth inning of four runs, culminating in a homerun by Manny Machado, would give the Padres a commanding lead of seven.
By this time, Stone had a good feeling about their team’s odds and could scream and yell from her seat, while surrounded by Mets fans.
There were a few innings when it looked like the Mets were about to start a rally, but each time San Diego and starting pitcher Yu Darvish closed the door for a comeback.
In the end, San Diego went on to play one of the best of three series, 7-1.
The Padres can close out the short wildcard series with a win in game two at Citi Field in Queens, New York on Saturday night.
We’ll have to wait and see if McCary and Stone will cheer their team on from the front row again.
