A foot injury forced former US Open champion Emma Raducanu to withdraw from her Korea Open quarterfinal match against top seed Daria Kasatkina after losing the first set 6-1 on Saturday.

Britain’s Raducanu struggled to serve due to her injured left leg and landing leg. She continued playing after a medical timeout, double-faulted and was unable to run the ball down the court.

The foot injury also came to light during the match in the round of 16 between 21-year-old Raducanu and Yuan Yue. She was able to continue playing after a medical timeout and won 6-4 6-3.

“I feel sorry for Emma … it’s a shame to get injured, especially in the deeper stages of the tournament,” Kasatkina said after the match. “I wish her a speedy recovery.”

The latest setback for Raducanu came after she was knocked out in the first round at the US Open last month by Sofia Kenin, having opted not to play any tournaments in the weeks leading up to the match.

Kasatkina will play compatriot Diana Shnaider in the semi-final later on Saturday after Friday’s match in Seoul was cancelled due to rain.

The fourth-seeded Shnaider defeated Australian Open quarter-finalist and fifth-seeded Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk 7-6(7) 6-3 in the quarter-finals.

Brazilian third seed Beatriz Haddad Maia will face former Roland Garros quarter-finalist Veronika Kudermetova in the other semi-final after she defeated Veronika’s sister Polina Kudermetova 6-2 6-1 in the round of 16.

Russian Veronika defeated Viktoriya Tomova 7-5 6-3 to reach her first semi-final of the year.
