Emma Raducanu produces statement straight sets victory against Elise Mertens to advance to the third round of the women’s singles at Wimbledon

Emma Raducanu reached the third round of the women’s singles at Wimbledon after beating Elise Mertens in three sets on Wednesday.

The British tennis player, who was given a wildcard for the tournament, had reached the second round after beating lucky loser Renata Zarazua in the opening round of the tournament.

Today that followed with a convincing 6-1 6-2 victory over the Belgian star, who is ranked 33rd in the world.

Although she said on Monday that she had won “in an ugly way”, she admitted after the match today that she thought she had “played very good tennis”.
