Emma Raducanu is hoping to be fit to compete at the Australian Open next week.

“To be honest, it was really unlucky last week,” Raducanu said.

‘I felt very good with my season and I felt very good with the preparation I did physically.

“I just had an accident on the court, and I don’t know what I could have done to prevent it, so I’m taking it one day at a time honestly and every day I’m trying my best to see and move forward. We’ll see.

“Hopefully by Monday or when the tournament starts (for me) I’ll be good and ready, but we’re just taking it one day at a time and we’re not trying to wait too long right now.”

The Australian Open begins on January 16 and Raducanu’s team was initially hopeful that after his slip in Auckland it was just a minor ankle strain.
