Emma Raducanu has announced that she will be sidelined for the rest of the year.

The 20-year-old Briton was forced to miss the recent US Open, as well as the French Open and Wimbledon earlier this year, after undergoing operations on both wrists and one ankle in early May.

Raducanu, who dropped out of the world top 200 this week, had hoped for an autumn comeback after returning to the practice range last month.

But she told BBC Sport: ‘I’ll be back next season. This season all the slams were done so it was hard to watch them go by, but I tried to stay on track as much as possible and stay focused on my recovery.”

Raducanu has been plagued by injuries since her victory at the 2021 US Open.

She has played just 10 matches this year and has not progressed beyond the second round of any Grand Slam since her stunning win at Flushing Meadows, which has attracted much criticism.

Asked about the criticism, the former world number 10 said: ‘The fact that they still talk about me even though I’m not at these events is just a compliment.

‘Someone said to me, ‘Worry if they don’t talk about you.’

‘Wimbledon is the dream and has always grown up. It is still the ultimate dream to win Wimbledon.’
