Emirates axes flights between Melbourne and Singapore
- Melbourne-Singapore flight route cut short
- Boeing 777s have been flying this route since 1996
Emirates has scrapped its Melbourne-Singapore route after flying between the cities for 28 years.
The Dubai-based airline Boeing 777s have been flying on this route since 1996.
The airline has not yet announced when the eight-hour flights will no longer be operated.
“Emirates will determine the end date of the EK404/405 SingaporeāMelbourne service after receiving the final assessment from the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS),” an Emirates spokesperson told Australian Aviation.
‘Once the end date is finalised, Emirates will communicate the changes to affected passengers and offer them alternative travel arrangements.’
Emirates said it would continue to operate multiple flights a day between Singapore and Dubai.
It is understood that once the last Emirates aircraft flies from Melbourne to Singapore, the airline will no longer operate any aircraft between Singapore and Australia.
Emirates will continue to operate four daily flights between Singapore and Dubai, and two direct daily A380 flights from Melbourne to Dubai, despite the cancellation of the Melbourne-Singapore route.
Emirates previously operated flights from Brisbane to Singapore, but discontinued this route in 2019.
