Missing from the action were Emily’s three-year-old son Sylvester and mother Kathleen Balgley.
John is a California-based professional artist with sculptures and paintings in dozens of galleries throughout the United States and Europe.
Meanwhile, Kathleen, who is from Poland, is a tenured university professor – having previously taught at UCLA and UCSD – and a published author.
Although Emily was born in London, she grew up in Encinitas, a beach town near San Diego, California. She is the only child of John and Kathleen.
Emily, who signed with Ford Models at the age of 14, had the full support of her parents when she started modeling.
After finding fame as the video vixen in Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines music video in 2013, Emily has helmed major fashion campaigns for Versace and Victoria’s Secret.

“I mean…your mother is a writer and I’m an artist,” he told Emily. ‘So it was an obvious step for me when you started acting.
“I knew that whatever you did would have something to do with art. It’s just who we are.’
John shared his approach to parenting and how he encouraged Emily to explore her own creativity growing up.
“My feeling about life in general is that I have to make things first and talk about them later, you know?” he explained. “When I raised you, I wanted to get everything out there. Ideas, materials, questions, and just leave it alone.
“Then I would tell you what I thought was right and what you could do better. You have always found your way in your art and your career,” John said.
In the same interview, Emily talked about growing up in the house her father built in San Diego, and the properties he owned and restored in Ireland and Spain.
“You built our house in San Diego, and you worked on the house in Ireland, which was quite worn out. I remember the summers in Spain that also helped you restore that place. You learned a local rock building technique to create the patio,” she recalled.
She recalled how she and her father would go “dumpster diving” to find items he could turn into art, and how he often included her in his creative process as a child.

She told her fans the “main reason I did this is because I’ve seen so many comments that associate divorce with failure and shame.” And I fundamentally disagree with that, both personally and politically.’
“I think historically, the shame around divorce is at least partly what has kept women in unfair, unhappy and sometimes even violent marriages,” she said.
“Finding the means and strength to end a relationship is often a very courageous and remarkable act,” she claimed.
“I’m not trying to make the point that everyone should make a divorce ring or turn their wedding dress into a mini dress or any other symbolic gesture for evolution, but I do think that single mothers and women starting over for the first time In a terrifying way, they must find comfort in the fact that they are not failures because they left.’
