EMILY PRESCOTT: Elton John trademarks his own name ahead of his signature performance tonight at Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage

Elton John’s appearance on Glastonbury’s main Pyramid stage tonight will be his last hurrah on British soil before he retires – but it’s unlikely to be the last we’ll hear from the Rocket Man.

The 76-year-old already appears to be planning new commercial ventures, as I can reveal that he has registered his own name for a range of possible projects, including clothing, jewelery and film and TV purposes.

Sir Elton – who, surprisingly, has not previously filed his name – had his law firm file an application for protection with the Intellectual Property Office, which is currently reviewing the application. The categories in the paperwork range from walking sticks to mouse pads and even pet collars and leashes.

That’s perhaps fitting considering Sir Elton and his husband David Furnish, 60, recently bought a black labrador puppy named Jacob.

That might be apt considering Sir Elton and his husband David Furnish, 60, recently bought a black labrador puppy named Jacob

Announcing the puppy’s arrival on Instagram, David revealed that the adorable new pooch is being cared for by their sons, saying: “Zachary and Elijah are co-fathers to little Jacob and have proudly stated that Elton and I.. um… being grandparents!’

But new commercial ventures and a puppy aren’t the only thing in the couple’s future, as David tells me the pair plan to fly to the South of France after Glastonbury for some much-needed rest and relaxation. Tonight’s performance is the latest in Sir Elton’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour, which began in Pennsylvania in September 2018 and featured more than 300 performances. “It’s going to be so different this time because there are no post-holiday concerts,” David tells me. ‘It is exciting.’

Sir Elton has created a new show for Glastonbury, starting with a song he hasn’t performed in a decade – though he hasn’t revealed which one. He’ll also be joined by four mystery guests, fueling the rumor mill. Fans have suggested names including Dua Lipa, Britney Spears, Harry Styles, Kylie Minogue – or even Taron Egerton, who played Sir Elton in the Rocketman biopic and was seen at Worthy Farm yesterday.

We’ll know soon enough!
