A woman always thought her boyfriend’s favorite mug was a gift from his ex-girlfriend, so finally learning the truth was the best holiday present ever.

‘My boyfriend always had this anthropology Mug with your initial on it,’ it began. “And he knew that an ex-girlfriend absolutely bought him that.”

The couple moved in together a few months ago and Emily had to deal with seeing the mug all over the house.

“The mug came with us when we moved into our new house, and I didn’t love it,” she confessed.

Emily was convinced that she didn’t want to confront her partner about the cup because she was worried about looking ‘crazy’.

“I’m not crazy, so I’m never going to say anything, I’m not going to say, ‘I don’t want your ex-girlfriend’s mug in my house.'”

But Emily didn’t have to live with the weight of her feelings for much longer.

“I went to his family’s house for Christmas this year, and his stepdad gave me a little box as a present.”

The ‘gift’ turned out to be the same Anthropologie mug with an ‘E’, Emily’s initial.

“It wasn’t from an ex-girlfriend, it’s from her stepdad,” he said with relief.

She added: ‘It’s so cute and I suddenly love this mug!’

While most of Emily’s followers were happy for her, some of the self-proclaimed “overthinkers” pointed to other potentially unpleasant scenarios.

“This is how my brain works too,” wrote one woman. ‘Did his stepfather give his ex-girlfriend the same cup?’

“Plot twist: He had a feeling you knew it was from an ex, so he had his stepdad give you one so he could drink from his former lover’s gift mug without detection.”

While most of Emily’s followers were happy for her, some of the self-proclaimed “overthinkers” pointed to other potential unpleasant scenarios regarding the mug.

Many admitted that they would have “dealt” with the cup if they had been in a similar situation.

‘That mug would not have moved with us to the new house,’ said one woman. “It would have magically ended up in the donation pile.”

“I would have ‘accidentally’ dropped the cup years ago.

“You could have smashed the mug and put the shattered pieces in the dishwasher, and that way you have something else to blame for its disappearance.”
