Emily in Paris star Ashley Park has candidly revealed she almost died afterwards she suffered ‘critical septic shock’ which ‘infected her organs’.

The 32-year-old took to Instagram to reveal her terrifying health scare, which started with tonsillitis while on holiday in Thailand for New Year’s.

She said she was in “excruciating pain” and had to deal with “so much confusion” before going to intensive care.

The on-screen star said she is ‘still in the throes of recovery’ but is ‘safely on the other side of the worst’.

What is septic shock?

Sepsis is a serious condition in which the body does not respond properly to an infection and instead turns against itself, causing the organs to malfunction.

Sepsis can develop into septic shock. This is a dramatic drop in blood pressure that can damage the lungs, kidneys, liver and other organs.

If sepsis progresses to septic shock, it increases the risk of death.

Symptoms of septic shock include:

  • Not being able to get up
  • Strong drowsiness or difficulty staying awake
  • Major change in mental status, such as extreme confusion

Ashley opened up to her 2.8 million Instagram followers about her recent struggles as she shared surprising photos from her hospital bed.

She wrote: ‘As I sit here processing and recovering from the first few weeks of 2024, the only word I can think of is gratitude.

‘During my December holiday until New Year’s Eve, what started as tonsillitis turned into critical septic shock, which infected and affected several of my organs.

“I’m grateful that my health has improved, despite what we were initially told.”

The actress credited her boyfriend Paul Forman, 29, for standing by her side “unconditionally.”

She added: ‘You calmed my fears and kept me going through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in ICU, scary emergency room, countless scans, tests and injections, excruciating pain and so much confusion, while we were alone on the other side. of the world, far removed from those we know.

‘I love you Paul. More than I can ever say.”

Ashely then thanked “every doctor and ICU nurse who worked tirelessly” before concluding: “I was hesitant to share what happened because I am still in the throes of recovery… but I now know that I am safely on the other side.” side of the world. the worst.

The Beef star gushed even further about Paul, adding on her Instagram Stories: ‘I love you.

‘I can’t believe we are spending the first weeks of 2024 in ICUs and hospitals. I am most fortunate to have you, Paul, by my side, through the painful and scary parts of life as well as the joys.”

Her post was quickly flooded with messages of support from her Emily In Paris co-stars, including Lily Collins.

She wrote: ‘I can barely watch this without crying. I love you sister and I am forever grateful that you are on the other side of this and to Paul for your incredibly big heart and for being there every step of the way. I can’t wait to hug you both.”

Paul has also since shared a photo of the pair on his own account, alongside a simple caption that read: ‘By your side no matter what.’

Ashley had previously posted a slew of photos from her sun-soaked holiday in Phuket, Thailand, before things took a terrifying turn.

Ashley has previously spoken out about other health challenges she has overcome, including overcoming cancer when she was a teenager.

She was just 15 when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and recovered after almost a year in hospital undergoing chemotherapy.

After being told what she could and couldn’t do during her treatment, she was inspired to change the way she approached health and wellness.

The Broadway star shared Shape magazine: ‘When the cancer physically left my body, I made it my mission not to let it affect my life.

‘I didn’t want it to define me. People were so concerned about me, and I became the person who said, “I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. I’ll go after what I want and just do it.”
