Emi Martinez ‘ready to quit Aston Villa THIS summer with clubs circling’
Emi Martinez ‘ready to leave Aston Villa THIS summer with Premier League clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United interested in acquiring the World Cup winning goalkeeper’
- The Argentina international would like to leave the Midlands club this summer
- Emi Martinez said he has interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, among others
- The Aston Villa goalkeeper still has a four-year contract with the club
Emi Martinez will be looking to leave Aston Villa this summer due to interest from a number of other Premier League clubs, it has been reported.
The 30-year-old made himself world famous last year with a series of decisive performances as Argentina won a World Cup for the first time since 1986.
According to TYC Sportsthe Argentina international is keen to leave Villa this summer, while Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham are all interested in acquiring his services.
The report says Martinez’s strong performances have been such for both club and country since joining Villa, a number of clubs have identified him as a natural successor to their current number 1.
It is alleged that Tottenham are currently leading the hunt for his services, with the club’s current captain Hugo Lloris reportedly having played his last game for the club.

The Aston Villa No1 reportedly has many admirers among other Premier League teams
Unai Emery has been known to occasionally criticize his goalkeeper for a number of things this season
Whether or not Martinez, himself a former Arsenal player, will join the north London club remains to be seen, although his place as their first-choice would be much more certain than at the other two reported clubs awaiting him.
Chelsea would be next in line, with uncertainty surrounding both keepers Kepa Arrizabalaga and Eduoard Mendy.
While Kepa has been the substitute for much of the season after wrestling back Mendy’s number 1 spot, concerns remain about his suitability for the Premier League.
Characteristics in which Martinez stands out the most, including a commanding presence in his territory, are often the characteristics for which Kepa’s detractors criticize him the most.
Amid the news that he is about to sign a new contract, uncertainty remains over David de Gea’s future as United’s number 1. Part of the reason the club has decided to award him a new contract, albeit on reduced terms, is due to the cost of replacing him with a high-profile option.
The report claims Martinez would not cost an exorbitant sum, with Aston Villa looking to recoup all – and perhaps more – of the £17million they paid Arsenal in 2020.
Martinez, who joined Villa three years ago, has enjoyed a remarkable revival in his club career – a revival that has undoubtedly helped his career with the national team.
However, there are signs this season that his relationship with Unai Emery, a former manager of his at Arsenal, has not been all rosy.
After Martinez’s lurid antics following Argentina’s World Cup win, Emery seemed to suggest he wasn’t a huge admirer of his behavior and said he would speak to him about it.
“When you have big emotions, it’s hard to control,” Emery said at the time. “I’ll talk to him next week about some partying. I respect that he is with his team.
“If he’s with us, under our responsibility, we can talk to him.”
Martinez shot himself to global fame earlier this season with his performances in Qatar
Meanwhile, the Spanish coach was furious with Martinez in February when he took a late corner against Arsenal at Villa Park.
Martinez lost 3–2 on a late own goal and rushed for a corner in the dying embers of the game, only for Arsenal to clear easily and Gabriel Martinelli finished in an empty net.
He decided to go upstairs himself. They are the protagonists, but I told him I don’t like it,” he said.
‘I told him that… Maybe [goalkeepers] can score once or twice in history, more goals have been scored against you. [We] more time wasted than I want.’
Martinez played a total of 109 games for Villa, who came over from Arsenal.
