An emergency room doctor at a Trump rally recounts how he performed CPR on a crowd member after the attempted murder and shooting.
“I heard the shots. I thought it was fireworks. Someone was yelling ‘he’s shot, he’s shot,'” said the man, whose blood was spattered across his white USA T-shirt. “So I walked over. I said I’m an emergency physician. Let me help you.”
“The guy was spun around, pinned between the benches and shot in the head. There’s a lot of blood and he had brain matter,” he told CBS News.
“So I got him together, so I have people there that are really helpful. I also did CPR and chest compressions.”
Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldfinger said one person is believed dead and “possibly a second.”
He said the person believed to be dead was “someone from the crowd.”
A helicopter was heard above the gathering as the emergency room doctor continued his harrowing account of events.
“The guy was spun around, pinned between the benches and shot in the head. There’s a lot of blood and he had brain tissue,” the man told CBS News
“So I got him together, so I got people there that are really helpful. I also did CPR chest compressions,” he continued
The US Secret Service released a statement confirming that “an incident occurred at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania on the evening of July 13.”
“The Secret Service has taken protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an ongoing Secret Service investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available.”
Steven Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, thanked law enforcement and emergency responders “for their swift action during this horrific incident.”

President Joe Biden issued a statement at 7:53 p.m. ET saying he is “praying” for former President Donald Trump and condemning “this kind of violence” following Saturday’s shooting at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I am grateful to hear that he is safe and doing well,” he said.
“I am praying for him and his family and everyone who was at the rally as we wait for more information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There is no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”
The assassination attempt occurred just days before the Republican Party convention opened in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Trump is expected to address delegates in attendance, who will formally nominate him as the Republican Party’s candidate for president.
