Embarrassing moment GCSE pupil who ‘confused Scrooge for The Grinch’ in her English exam posts her disappointing results for the world to see on TikTok (and makes another blunder)
A GCSE student posted a video on TikTok of the when she opened her results and realized she had “failed everything.”
Emily Burns shared the embarrassing moment on social media today, the day of Britain’s GCSE student results.
In the clip, she is standing facing the camera, holding the brown envelope containing her results.
Speaking to her followers, she says, “So I have the envelope everyone has been waiting for these past few weeks.”
Laughing nervously, she continues, “Now we’re going to look at it,” pulling out the sheet of paper to find out her numbers.

She quickly puts her hand to her mouth in shock when she sees what’s written on the newspaper.
The GCSE student bursts into laughter again and says ‘Oh my God, I failed at everything’.
The family member behind the camera responds to the realization with a sympathetic “aww.”
In another gaffe, viewers noticed that Emily accidentally captioned the video “CCSE Results” instead of “GCSE Results.”
Next, the student shows her followers a close-up of the piece of paper stating that she received a grade of 1 in Business and Mathematics, a 2-2 in Combined Science, a 2 in Geography and English Language, and a 5 in English Literature .
In England, GCSEs are graded using a numerical system from 9 to 1, rather than letters, as was previously the case.
Students need a 4 for a ‘standard pass’ and a 5 for a ‘strong pass’; the numbers 7, 9 correspond to the top numbers A* and A.
Students who perform exceptionally well receive a 9.
Emily ends the clip with the same happy attitude she started with, unaffected by the numbers and adding, “Hope everyone got the results they wanted and yes, nice.”
Emily’s video has so far received over 300,000 views, as well as 40,000 likes and over 1,500 comments.
The comments were full of support, with one viewer writing, “Proud of you, results aren’t everything. You have to think: your year is ruined once they switch the grade boundaries. Great job x.’
Other positive messages read ‘still proud of you em x’ and ‘still proud of you babes‼️’

Someone else added, “Awww Ems, you’ll be great either way, numbers don’t define you xxx,” to which the student replied, “I love you.”
After revealing the results, she posted another video, in which she duetted with TikTok predictions she had made before.
Emily predicted she would get a U in English Literature, which she actually excelled at, with a grade of 5, which is a ‘strong pass’.
She also predicted she would get a U in geography, mathematics and science.
The TikToker has regularly made “story time” videos throughout the exam season, updating her followers on how each exam went.
Her most notable admission was that she wrote about “the Grinch” during her English literature exam when she was supposed to be writing about Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol.
In the video with over three million viewsshe explained how she confused the two Christmas characters.
She said, “I thought Scrooge stole Christmas, but in reality I wrote about the Grinch during the test.
Guys, I wrote that Scrooge stole Christmas and he’s greedy about it, but in fact he didn’t steal Christmas, that was the Grinch – so anyone passing my exam just give me the benefit of the doubt, love. ‘
One commenter wrote, “I mean Scrooge somehow stole Christmas?”
Another added, “It’s okay girls, I didn’t read Christmas carols until the morning of the exam.”
