Elon Musk reveals he BACKS border wall and says migrants must have ‘shred of evidence’ to claim for asylum – days after announcing visit to crisis-hit Eagle Pass

Elon Musk has expressed support for a border wall, claiming that migrants must have proof of their asylum claims before being allowed into the country.

Just days after announcing an upcoming visit to crisis-hit Eagle Pass, Texas, Musk took to X, known as Twitter before he bought it, to address the thousands who crossed into the US this month.

The city of just 28,000 residents has been overwhelmed by migrants in recent days, with the number of border crossings rising to about 8,000 per day in the week ending September 22, according to the Washington Office of Latin America. During the month of August, more than 232,000 migrants crossed the US-Mexico border.

“We actually need a wall, and we need to require people to have some piece of evidence to claim asylum, because everyone does that,” the 52-year-old Tesla founder said on Wednesday. “It’s a hack you can literally Google to find out exactly what to say!

According to local reports, most of the asylum seekers are Venezuelans who say they were forced to leave their home country due to the South American nation’s economic and social collapse under the socialist regime of Nicolas Maduro.

Musk said he would learn more about the situation “perhaps as soon as Thursday” when he visits Eagle Pass.

He made the comments while responding to a video in which House Speaker Kevin McCarthy claimed he will not support financing Ukraine until the administration addresses the border crisis.

“The (US) border needs to be secured.

This is not a partisan issue – even the elected leaders of the Democratic Party of New York say this is a serious crisis,” Musk added.

He also clarified that while “most of the (very long) border is super tricky… the convenient parts of the border need walls and that’s not difficult.”

It comes after Musk claimed on Tuesday that he had spoken to Congressman Tony Gonzales, who sounded the alarm about the crisis, and decided to see the scene for himself.

“I spoke with Rep. Tony Gonzales this evening – he confirmed it is a serious issue,” Musk wrote on Tuesday. ‘They are being overwhelmed by unprecedented numbers – they have just reached an all-time high and are still growing! I’m going to Eagle Pass later this week to see what’s going on with myself.”

Officers were seen helping people through the site, including lifting small children exhausted from the journey to safety, as many migrants waited in line to be processed.

Shelters in border towns like Eagle Pass are well over capacity due to the thousands of crossings per day.

As officials look for solutions, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has led the movement to bus migrants to northern states to share the burden of ineffective border policies while bringing the crisis to national attention.

In New York, where more than 100,000 migrants have flooded into the city, Mayor Eric Adams admitted this month that the influx could “destroy” the Big Apple.

But Salinas addressed such comments when he decried Biden’s response to the Eagle Pass influx, saying on social media this week: “We are not a city that has the resources of New York, Chicago, and cities like that.

‘You already see that large cities are complaining that they are receiving large numbers of undocumented immigrants. I mean, we’re Eagle Pass. We have limited resources, so this is not sustainable.

“What’s disappointing as mayor is that we haven’t heard from the President of the United States or the Vice President of the United States… “To this day, I have never heard of a concrete action plan to to put an end to this cannot continue to happen. Sometimes we feel a little abandoned here on the border here in Eagle Pass.”
