Elon Musk launches savage attack on Aussie newspaper: ‘Boring them to death’

Elon Musk has hit back at the Sydney Morning Herald after it suggested he would quit his multi-billion dollar company Tesla next year.

The newspaper published an article on Sunday by technology editor David Swan sharing a series of predictions for technology in the new year.

One of the predictions was that Musk, the richest man in the world, would be forced to part ways with the electric car company Tesla due to his new role in the new administration of Donald Trump.

Musk will co-lead the new Department of Government Efficiency, tasked with cutting red tape and bureaucracy in Washington.

“Combining leadership roles at X, Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, The Boring Company and Neuralink was already untenable,” the SMH op-ed said.

“Musk has already feuded with MAGA diehards like Steve Bannon over immigration issues, and the inauguration is still weeks away.

He has also been at odds with the legal system, after a US judge blocked Musk’s US$56 billion ($90 billion) pay package from Tesla.

“After continued controversy and distractions, it will all come to a head in 2025, and Musk will be forced to hand over the reins at Tesla, a company that many wrongly believe he founded.”

But Musk snapped back with a cheeky response on his platform X, formerly Twitter.

“I predict that the Sydney Morning Herald will continue to lose readership in 2025 because it relentlessly lies to their audience and bores them to death,” Musk wrote.

A reply to his post claimed that the “legacy media is in a spiral of doom,” to which Musk said, “yes.”

Mr. Swan seemed unperturbed by Musk’s criticism.

“Damn, toasted,” he wrote after reposting Musk’s barb.

On LinkedIn, he added, “I couldn’t disagree with Elon on this anymore,” sharing a screenshot of Musk’s response.

Musk has made it his mission to critique “legacy media” in favor of new media, like the platform he owns, X.

He’s no stranger to controversy, of course, and has already been embroiled in a “MAGA civil war” over skilled visas.

Musk has expressed support for H-1B visas, which allow highly qualified foreigners to work in the US for six years, rather than prioritizing American workers.

Musk even threatened to “go to war” with MAGA Republicans this week after defending the visas, and Donald Trump shocked loyal followers by siding with the SpaceX founder on the controversial issue.
