Elon Musk Says Twitter Will Post ‘Real’ Hate Speech Examples Every Week Starting Today After The New York Times Accused Him Of Pushing A Raise, Says Kanye, Nick Fuentes And Trump Pushed A ‘Major’ Raise
- Musk played down a New York Times report that claimed hate speech was rising to an unprecedented level because of his leadership.
- The Times report said it had tripled in some areas.
- Musk said he would produce data later today on ‘real’ examples of hate speech.
- He also said that Kanye West and Nick Fuentes’ visit to Trump at Mar-a-Lago led to a “big spike.”
- Musk banned West from the site last night after a series of anti-Semitic comments.
- Since taking office in October, he has rewritten the rules about what really counts as hate speech on the site.
Elon Musk says Twitter will start posting examples of accounts that encourage hate speech every week starting today after being accused of conducting it himself.
Musk said Kanye West’s and white supremacist Nick Fuentes’ connection to Trump caused a “big spike.”
“Twitter will post actual ‘hate speech’ impressions (the same list the company has always used) later today and every week going forward,” he said.
Fuentes and West met with Trump at his Florida property, Mar-a-Lago, on November 22. On November 25, Trump posted on Truth Social that he did not know who Fuentes was at the time. That Truth Social post generated a “big spike,” Musk said, while downplaying a New York Times report that suggested he was to blame for the spike.
The New York Times published a report today citing researchers who said homophobic, racist and anti-Semitic tweets had increased on an unprecedented scale since Musk took control of the site in late October.
