Elon Musk hits out at Kamala Harris for ‘lying’ about major election issue as she’s corrected by community notes on X
Elon Musk on Monday took to his social media platform X to disparage Kamala Harris, confirming that she lied about Donald Trump’s position on a nationwide abortion ban.
In April, Trump said he opposes a nationwide ban on abortion. If re-elected, he would not sign a bill into law because he had already “violated” Roe v. Wade. He declined to clarify whether he describes himself as pro-choice or pro-life.
Trump reiterated that position Thursday during his first debate with Harris’ boss, Joe Biden, in a horrifying spectacle that has left Democrats confused about what to do next.
However, on Monday, Harris tweeted: “Donald Trump would ban abortion nationwide. President @JoeBiden and I will do everything we can to stop him and restore women’s reproductive freedom.”
Musk reposted a screenshot of the tweet on his own account, complete with a number of community notes reiterating Trump’s opposition to a nationwide ban.

Tesla CEO wrote: “When will politicians, or at least the interns managing their accounts, learn that lying on this platform doesn’t work anymore?”
The community notes cite articles published by center-left media and even credible left-leaning media such as CNN, BBC, The Associated Press and The New York Times.
Trump told reporters during an April press conference with Speaker Mike Johnson at Mar-a-Lago that there is no longer a need for a national ban on abortion because of the Supreme Court’s June 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The president previously reversed his position on supporting a nationwide ban on abortion, angering right-wing and liberal supporters.
“We don’t need it anymore because we violated Roe v. Wade and did something that nobody thought was possible. We gave it back to the states, and the states are doing a really brilliant job in some cases,” he explained.
When pressed further by a reporter, asking if he described himself as “pro-choice” or “pro-life,” Trump brushed it off.
“You know exactly which one it is,” he replied. He then compared himself to Ronald Reagan, because both GOP leaders were once registered Democrats.
“When I was in New York, and when I was a Democrat, like Ronald Reagan, you know. Ronald Reagan was a Democrat, we fall on a very similar path.”

Tesla’s CEO defended Trump: “When are politicians, or at least the interns who manage their accounts, going to realize that lying on this platform doesn’t work anymore?”
He praised the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, appointing three of them to the bench.
Trump also accused Democrats of being “radicals” in this regard, as they are willing to perform abortions up until birth.
“That’s extreme and that’s radical, and nobody should have that. And that has to end.”
The former president released a video earlier this week arguing that abortion policy should be left up to the states, finally revealing his stance on the highly controversial issue after months of vacillation.
In the video of his long-awaited announcement on Truth Social, he did not give a specific time frame for when he would or would not support abortion.
Trump celebrated the Supreme Court’s June 2022 overturning of Roe v. Wade, a ruling that sparked a two-year debate over how abortion should now be addressed at the state and federal levels.
The 77-year-old man also said in the four-and-a-half-minute video that he believes in exceptions to the right to terminate a pregnancy in cases of rape, incest and to save the mother’s life.
“We have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint. The states decide this by vote or legislation, or maybe both, and whatever they decide has to be the law of the land,” Trump said in the video.

He also accused Democrats of believing in “executing the child after birth.”
Trump has previously indicated that he would support a federal ban on abortions past 15 weeks.
Trump confirmed last month during his speech on the radio program Sid & Friends in the Morning that there are reports that he is considering proposing a policy to ban abortion at the federal level up to and including the first trimester.
“People now agree on the number of weeks: 15. I think about that and it comes out to something very reasonable,” Trump said in the interview.
“But people really — even hardliners agree, it seems like 15 weeks is a number that people agree on. But I will make that announcement at the right time.”
Now Trump dodged the issue by leaving the matter to the states.
Those most opposed to abortion are disappointed that Trump has not gone far enough with his policies, despite years of calling himself the most pro-life president in US history.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America says the group is “deeply disappointed” with Trump’s position and that by turning the issue over to the states, “the national debate is left to the Democrats.”
The group said it will “work tirelessly to defeat President Biden in November.”
