Elon Musk admits that Twitter is plagued by “multiple internal and external problems” as the technological collapse leaves users unable to read messages.

  • Twitter CEO Elon Musk admitted: ‘Multiple internal and external issues simultaneously today. It should be fully up and running again later tonight’
  • Users were unable to like tweets or access their direct messages

Twitter users found themselves unable to properly use the social networking site on Wednesday night after a series of “internal and external” issues.

Users of Elon Musk’s site found they could no longer follow accounts or access their direct messages, while the platform experienced a series of widespread technical issues.

The company tweeted from its ‘support’ account: ‘Twitter may not be working as expected for some of you. Sorry for the inconvenience. We are aware and are working to fix this.

Elon later admitted: ‘Multiple internal and external issues simultaneously today. It should be fully up and running later tonight.

Users first noticed the issue when they tried to send tweets and received a message saying they had reached their “tweet limit.”

According to DownDetector, there was a spike in people saying they were having problems with the social networking site around 6 p.m. EST.

While Twitter has for years limited the number of tweets an account can send, it’s 2,400 per day, or 100 per hour, far more than most regular human-run accounts send on the platform.

Users also had issues when they tried to follow another Twitter user and received the message “You can’t follow any more people at this time” with a link to the company’s policy on following limits.

Twitter’s longstanding limit on how many accounts a single user can follow in a single day is 400; again, more than a normal Twitter user would typically achieve in any given day.

It is not clear what caused the collapse on Wednesday. But Musk assured users that everything would be up and running again later in the evening.
