Ellen DeGeneres shares a throwback to her wedding day… celebrating eight years since the Supreme Court guaranteed same-sex marriages in the United States
Ellen DeGeneres on Monday reminisced about her wedding to Portia de Rossi in August 2008, celebrating a very significant date.
The 65-year-old comedienne and former talk show host shared a photo of her and de Rossi, 50, in honor of the eighth anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling that guaranteed same-sex marriages in the United States.
It was on June 26, 2015, that Obergefell v. Hodges was decided by the Supreme Court, which voted 5 to 4 to recognize same-sex marriages nationwide.
DeGeneres decided to mark the occasion by sharing a black and white photo of her and Portia embracing each other in their white outfits on their wedding date.
‘8 years ago today marks an important moment. Then the Supreme Court said ‘yes’ to make everyone feel the same joy I do right now,” said Ellen.

The news comes just days after Ellen’s former girlfriend Rosie O’Donnell opened up and revealed she hasn’t accepted Ellen’s apology.
O’Donnell, 61, shared The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month: “She texted me a few weeks ago to check in, see how I’m doing, and I asked her how she survives when she’s not on TV.”
“It’s a big transition. But we’ve had our weirdos in our relationship. I don’t know if it’s jealousy, competition, or the fact that she once said something mean about me that really hurt me.’
Last year, Rosie first revealed the long-standing feud with Ellen on an episode of Watch What Happens Live.
Rosie revealed that Ellen reached out some time after to apologize as she explained to THR, “She wrote, ‘I’m really sorry, and I don’t remember.’ I think she saw me talk about it on Andy Cohen’s show.”
“I remembered it so well, I had T-shirts printed and I gave them to my staff that said, ‘I don’t know Rosie. We’re not friends.’
Rosie went on to explain that she is not willing to let her back into the circle of trust, despite the two’s long history together.

She explained; “I have a picture of her holding it [my then-infant son] parker. I know her mother. I was able to identify her brother without her in the room. I had known her for so many years. It just felt like I don’t trust this person in my world.”
The drama all started when Ellen appeared on Larry King Live in May 1998, shortly after Rosie came out as a lesbian.
Ellen was asked what her thoughts were on the news and she replied, ‘I don’t know. You know, maybe she didn’t — I don’t know Rosie very well.’
“I mean, I talked to her, but we’re not really friends. We don’t know, like — so I don’t really know and I wouldn’t be able to say what her…” she added.
