Elle Macpherson celebrates 20 years of sobriety with AA token after getting sober on her milestone 40th birthday

Elle Macpherson celebrated 20 years of sobriety on Monday.

The Australian model, 59, proudly shared a photo of her blue and gold tri-plate token from Alcoholics Anonymous on Instagram.

She then shared two quotes from American poet Maya Angelou and writer Alan Watts to mark the occasion.

‘This is a beautiful day. I’ve never seen this one before. Maya Angelou,” was the first quote.

‘The meaning of happiness consists of three elements: freedom, gratitude and the sense of wonder. Life is not a problem to be solved, but an experience to be lived. Alan Watts.’

It comes after the model, who was nicknamed “The Body” by Time Magazine in 1989, previously thought about getting sober.

“It’s funny, 40 is such an introspective year,” she shared Gritty Pretty magazine in 2020.

“I got sober when I was forty. I felt like I wanted to spend time introspecting,” she continued.

Elle also previously told Ocean Drive magazine that she started focusing on health and wellness at the age of 40.

“Beauty at any age is such a boring cliché, but beauty isn’t just for the young,” she said.

“There is a big movement that supports that. I didn’t feel any pressure at all to reach a milestone when I turned fifty, maybe because I’ve been preparing for this phase of my life for a long time.’

“By the time I turned 50, I physically didn’t feel any plateau… It wasn’t like, oh my God, I better get together before I turn 50; it was more like being reborn.”
