Elizabeth Olsen reveals she does not miss playing Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
It’s been eight years since Elizabeth Olsen made her debut as Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, though the actress reveals she doesn’t “miss” the character.
Olsen, 34, debuted as Scarlet Witch in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, and she’s set to return in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, 2021’s WandaVision TV series and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
While there currently appear to be no plans for Olsen to return as Scarlett Witch, the actress revealed to The White Lotus star Meghann Fahy in a Variety Actors on Actors interview that she is still proud of what they were able to do.
When asked if she misses playing Wanda, Olsen replied, “No, I don’t.” I think it’s been almost 10 years since I played her. And I loved it.’
However, she added, “And I think the reason why I don’t call (Marvel president) Kevin Feige every day with ideas is because I’m really proud of what we were able to do.”
Wanda: It’s been eight years since Elizabeth Olsen made her debut as Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, though the actress reveals she doesn’t “miss” the character
Character: Olsen, 34, debuted as Scarlet Witch in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, and she would return in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, the TV series WandaVision from 2021 and Doctor Strange from 2022 and the Multiverse of Madness
She added that the 2021 TV series WandaVision, which reunited her with Paul Bettany’s Vision, was “a really surprising opportunity.”
“If someone told me I was fired from Marvel movies, I’ll be proud of what we’ve made,” she said.
“And I’m really trying to figure out how to load other movies and characters so it’s less about the wonder of it all,” Olsen added.
Fahy added, “That’s such a great answer! And so fair!’
It’s currently unclear if she’ll return in the MCU, given the uncertain fate of her character from last year’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
Last crushed under a massive building, Wanda sacrificed herself to destroy the Darkhold, an evil book of sorcery that corrupted her.
But while that ‘version’ of Wanda was seemingly destroyed, the exploration of the ‘multiverse’ opens things up for different versions of Wand to emerge.
Feige said last year, “There really is so much more to discover. We still haven’t gotten into many of her main storylines from the comics.”
Surprised: She added that the 2021 TV series WandaVision, which reunited her with Paul Bettany’s Vision, was “a very surprising opportunity”
Fired: “If someone told me I was fired from Marvel movies, I’ll be proud of what we made,” she said
“I would work with Lizzie for another 100 years if we could. Everything is possible in the multiverse! We’ll have to see,” he added cryptically.
Leading up to Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Olsen revealed in interviews that she was surprised they took her character in a villainous direction.
“I think I was nervous and confused at first because I hadn’t finished WandaVision yet, but we were almost done,” said Olsen.
“And I thought, ‘Oh my God, how do I make this all work together?’ We are here; I’m here,” she added.
And it became a great opportunity to have people win by this woman in WandaVision and feel for her, and then manipulate them in this movie, where they get on her side and then feel conflicted themselves, ‘ she said.
