Elizabeth North arrest: Adelaide woman allegedly bites police officers while resisting arrest

Disturbing video footage has emerged of the dramatic end to an alleged crime spree in which a young woman is said to have bitten and attacked three police officers during her dramatic arrest.

Two officers were reportedly bitten on the hand and forearm, while their colleague was attacked as he tried to restrain the woman in Elizabeth North in Adelaide’s north on Monday.

Footage from shocked bystanders showed officers struggling to hold the woman as she allegedly tried to resist arrest.

One of the officers grimaced after allegedly being bitten.

The officers who were allegedly bitten were taken to hospital and have since been released. Their colleague also needed medical treatment.

It is feared that the officers have contracted illnesses and will be absent for the rest of the week. 10 News reported.

The woman, 24, from Davoren Park is now in custody after being charged with multiple crimes following her alleged crime spree.

Police were called to the Red Lion hotel on Woodford Road on Monday afternoon after reports that a woman had allegedly damaged a car and fled the scene.

A short time later, the same woman reportedly approached a Mazda SUV, stopped the intersection of Main North Road and Midway Road and threw a rock at the vehicle, which narrowly missed.

Police suspect that the woman then tried to get into the car and headbutted the driver’s window.

The driver and occupants closed the doors and the woman walked away.

‘I didn’t sleep much last night. [I had] flashbacks, nightmares,” said driver Sammi Thompson 7 News.

Police claimed the woman was also captured on CCTV allegedly vandalizing a local postbox, scaring locals, police said 10 News.

Officers launched an urgent search and located the woman on Yorktown Road, where the woman “violently resisted” arrest, police alleged.

The 24-year-old woman was charged with a series of serious crimes.

These included three counts of assaulting an emergency worker causing damage, three counts of obstructing police, damage, vehicle interference, carrying an offensive weapon and throwing missiles.

The woman appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning, where the magistrate heard she has two other pending cases for assaulting emergency workers.

The woman’s lawyer told the court the 24-year-old had a history of mental illness and substance abuse.

The woman will remain behind bars until a bail application can be prepared.

South Australian Prime Minister Peter Malinauskas was shocked by the alleged incident.

β€œThis behavior cannot and should never be tolerated,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

‘[The community needs to] show due respect to those men and women who put themselves at risk in the pursuit of safety for others.”
