Elegance expert reveals the seven things to never wear if you want to look sophisticated

An elegance coach has revealed the outfits people wear that scream you have ‘no class’.

Anna Bey, a YouTuber who splits her time between London and Geneva, told her viewers that the “number one secret” to looking stylish is to avoid “what the masses wear.”

The lifestyle guru, who “helps women improve themselves so they can live their best lives,” gave the advice in her latest video on YouTube, where she has 1.84 million subscribers.

Skinny jeans, black and white stripes and leather leggings are just some of the ‘classic items’ that Anna says are ‘overexposed’.

The YouTuber said of skinny jeans, “Even with a pair of heels, it doesn’t look elevated.

“Wow, we’ve really seen it everywhere like this is oversaturation and that’s why it looks dated.”

Anna added that skinny jeans make you look like you have “sausage legs.”

Despite her scathing review, the expert added that viewers shouldn’t throw away their skinny jeans because of her advice.

“You can still use them, of course,” she said. “You can use them again.”

As an example of how skinny jeans can be styled to create an elegant look, Anna said to wear them with a knee-high boot.

“Or boots that really just disguise the fact that you’re wearing skinny jeans,” she said.

Concluding her rant, she said, “If you want to look more modern, skinny jeans are not the best choice.”

The next piece of clothing that Anna gives a big thumbs up is the motorcycle jacket, which is usually worn in leather.

The elegance coach, who admitted to being fond of leather jackets himself, said there is a big difference between a well-made one and a poorly made one.

“The craftsmanship isn’t there,” she said. ‘The fabrics are not of the highest quality and that only makes it look more dated.’

Anna continued: ‘The motorcycle jacket has been seen on too many people.’

“And definitely don’t wear it with skinny jeans,” she added.

The elegance expert also expressed her distaste for the waterfall coat, which she describes as ‘the cousin’ of the moto jacket.

Anna said: ‘I think a lot of older ladies are really big fans of this type of jacket, which I understand, because it gives a bit of an element of style when you wear it.

‘It gives you a bit of fluidity and a feminine silhouette with those waves.

‘The problem is that ladies who are a little older often have a larger chest or a larger midsection and the waterfall jacket creates a baggy effect.’

Elsewhere, Anna highlighted that another ‘overexposed item’ is leather leggings.

Anna shared a photo of herself wearing the item and joked: “That was in 2017 and 100 years later, unfortunately we’ve seen too many of the leather leggings.”

But Anna assures her followers that they shouldn’t avoid leather altogether.

Instead, she said to buy leather pants that are flared or cropped to look “elevated.”

‘I think the A leather element can look very youthful and add a little spice to an outfit,” Anna said.

Anna then says that she disapproves of the horizontal black and white stripe.

Anna showed pictures of models in striped T-shirts and asked: ‘Do you think this looks elevated?

“When we started wearing horizontal black and white stripes, I don’t know, I immediately started thinking of those cartoons we used to watch when we were young when someone was in jail – not exactly a good idea!”

But Anna acknowledges there are exceptions to the no-stripe rule, such as the navy blue and white Breton stripe which she says has “an elegant glow.”

I think so that stripes can be beautiful. I personally love the pinstripe – very sophisticated. Or vertical stripes can be quite beautiful.

“We also need to talk about the checkered print,” Anna said.

“I’d wear it in the countryside or in the mountains, but in the city I think it generally looks a bit out of place.”

But Oxford students can breathe a sigh of relief, because Anna makes an exception for tweed, because it is ‘very classic and traditional’ and therefore has ‘a long lifespan’.

The next item on Anna’s no-go list are colorful pumps.

But she offered a disclaimer, saying: ‘Color alone doesn’t determine whether something looks cheap or expensive – it’s not that simple.

“It’s the combination of factors, like what kind of material the shoe has, what kind of construction or design or detail it has.

‘IF Then you have no experience with styling please play it safe by avoiding colorful pumps all together.’

In a similar vein, Anna advises those with less styling experience to avoid colorful denim.

Last but not least, Anna thinks the denim skirt looks dated.

‘Certainly looks very 2000s,” she said. ‘And not necessarily in a positive way!

‘That’s not it but it’s time for the denim skirt to come back as if it needs a rest more before it feels appropriate to come back.’

But Anna is more forgiving of the white denim skirt because it is “less overexposed.”

But denim blue or gray? “Put them away!”
