Urgent fire warning about household item after a home nearly went up in flames
Australians have been issued an urgent warning to leave electric blankets behind during the winter months after a house almost went up in flames.
A woman living in the Sutherland Shire, south of Sydney, was shocked after she went into her room on Friday evening and saw her bed on fire.
She immediately called Triple Zero and closed the door, using her quick thinking to prevent the rest of the house from catching fire.
Electricity company Bhamtech Data and Electrical, which specializes in cabling for telephone and internet services, shared photos of the bedroom which was left completely destroyed after the fire.
The company was called in to help customers after the inferno.

‘Everyone is safe, happy. It is still a devastating sight,” the company said in a post.
‘Make sure you understand all safety precautions associated with your electrical appliances.’
Shocking photos show the headboard of the bed completely scorched, while the walls of the bedrooms were also charred by the fire.
Another close-up photo showed that all that was left of the electric blanket was some melted wires and wiring.
It is understood no one was injured in the fire.
Fire and Rescue NSW was contacted for comment.
