A woman has been taken into custody after an elderly man was allegedly stabbed to death at an apartment complex.
The incident happened at around 10.50pm on Tuesday at an apartment on the Williams Esplanade in Palm Cove, about 30 kilometers north of Cairns in Queensland.
The emergency services arrived on the scene after reports of a serious assault in the home.
First responders found the 80-year-old man with serious stab wounds before he was rushed to Cairns Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Queensland Police said a 58-year-old woman has been taken into custody and is currently assisting police with their investigation.
No charges have been filed as police are still investigating the cause of the horrific incident.
Detectives were still at the apartment complex around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning with two police cars parked outside the Villa Paradiso apartment complex.

Shocked residents The quiet tourist spot has been shocked by the man’s death.
Palm Cove resident Simon Welsing said the incident was unexpected.
‘You definitely don’t expect it here. Apart from the tourists, this is a quiet community,” Mr Welsing told the newspaper Cairns Post.
Tourist Nick Tate, from the Gold Coast and visiting the area with his partner and two children, told the newspaper he could not believe what had happened overnight.
‘We’ve visited Palm Cove a few times. “It’s shocking that something like this would happen here,” he said.
The man and woman are not believed to be related.
