Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’s Latest Story Trailer Shows ‘The Tyranny of Messmer’s Flame’
FromSoftware has released a brand new story trailer for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree ahead of the expansion’s launch next month.
The three-minute film, which you can watch below, finally provides a deeper insight into the story while also offering fans a lot of knowledge to sink their teeth into.
We also have an official description for the downloadable content (DLC), which reads: “The Shadow of the Story can now be told. Learn the history of the Realm of Shadow, the invisible land that will be revealed on June 21, 2024.”
The trailer is stunning, showing the DLC’s main antagonist, Messmer the Impaler, in all his fiery glory as he unleashes tyranny in the Land of Shadow. We also get a glimpse of some gruesome new creatures, a shot of a group of NPCs in unique armor, as well as snippets featuring what appears to be both Marika and Miquella at certain points in history.
It also resembles the civil servant Elden Ring website has been updated to provide a deeper description of the Shadow of the Erdtree.
‘The land of the shadows. A place overshadowed by the Erdtree,” it says. “Where the goddess Marika first set foot. A country purified in an unsung battle. Set ablaze by Messmer’s flame.
“It was to this country that Miquella left. Stripping away his flesh, his strength, his lineage. Of everything that is gold. And now Miquella wait for the return of his promised Lord.”
FromSoftware previously confirmed that the DLC will be “the largest expansion yet, requiring players to unravel the hidden mystery of the world from the critically acclaimed fantasy action RPG.”
It also adds new weapons, equipment, skills and magic, along with new boss encounters found on an all-new map that players can “travel between seamlessly.”
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be released next month on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series|S, Xbox One and PC.
