An American man has been deported from Colombia after he tried to board a locked plane after missing his flight.
The passenger, whose name has not been released, panicked at Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport on Friday after arriving late for his LATAM flight, Colombia’s aviation workers’ association said.
After being told he would not be allowed to board Flight 4090 to Cartagena, he allegedly attacked staff and walked through the jet bridge into the closed aircraft.
Shocking footage from a male passenger on board showed the deranged passenger kicking the door to gain entry.
“Don’t you dare,” he told a concerned crew member, “Just stay calm and breathe.”
An American man was deported from Colombia on Friday after he tried to kick in the door of a closed LATAM flight at Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport. The passenger, whose name has not been released, reportedly arrived late for his flight to Cartagena and tried to force his way inside before being arrested
An employee at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, Colombia, followed the American passenger after he bypassed security protocols and walked down the walkway before attempting to kick in the door of a LATAM plane
In the background, an airport worker could be seen waiting for police to arrive as the passenger walked around and then crashed into an airplane window.
He continued to kick the plane door and vented his anger by kicking a wall with his open sandal.
After kicking the plane door a few more times and nearly breaking a control panel, he walked to the window and shouted, “I want in.”
His strange behavior continued when he knelt down and begged, “I’d like to come in, please.” He held his passport and boarding pass in one hand and banged on the window with the other.
An American passenger lost his temper and kicked a wall on the jet bridge as he tried to force open a door on a plane in Latin America after being told he would not be allowed to board the plane because he had arrived late
The passenger pressed his face against one of the plane’s windows as he begged to be let in.
The man was eventually subdued by police, airline personnel and security and taken to an immigration office.
He attacked one of the officers during the trial and was later deported.
“This disruptive passenger initially attacked the ground staff after being told that the flight had already closed and that he had arrived late,” Daniel Gallo, president of the Colombian Airline Workers Association, said in a statement. “He tried to force his way onto the boarding bridge and, when he was unable to do so, he smashed the main door and windows of the plane.”
Gallo urged the Colombian government to introduce stricter laws to prosecute passengers who misbehave.
“This individual engaged in aggressive behavior that put staff and other travelers at risk, and he also failed to comply with travel regulations,” he said. “We continue to call on the federal government and Congress to take urgent and strong action against these passengers, who are arriving more frequently every day.”
