Chilling surveillance footage shows a 17-year-old girl’s last moments before she disappeared.
Penelope Wise was walking down a street near the Corner Bar in Rockford, Michigan, around midnight on June 1 when she was captured on video.
The young man, who struggles with mental health issues, wore a pink top and denim shorts and at one point appeared to look directly into the camera.
Wise has been missing from her Cedar Springs home since May 31. Surveillance footage released by Kent County deputies shows her walking on Rockford Park Drive, about five miles from her home, later that evening.
In the fifth week of the case, Kent County Sheriff’s Deputy Bryan Muir asks the local community for help in his search for Wise.
The last known moments of a missing 17-year-old girl have been revealed in terrifying surveillance footage
Penelope Wise was seen wandering a street near the Corner Bar in Rockford, Michigan around midnight on June 1. That was the last time she was seen.
“We have over 750 people at the sheriff’s office, but here in Kent County alone we have 680,000 people who can be our eyes and ears in a case like this,” Muir told WZZM13.
“If you look beyond just the Kent County area and into the entire region, we feel like there are more people who may have information than what our resources can find.”
“We still have no information on where Penny is, and we wanted to make sure the community knows we are still searching for her every day,” Muir said.
“We are working with our local and federal law enforcement partners and trying to use all the technology and equipment we have to find her, but we really need the community’s help right now.”
The sheriff’s deputy said the community can help by checking their personal security cameras for footage of Wise, even if they live outside of Rockford.
“Even though it may seem like a small tip, or it may seem insignificant, or you may think we already have that information, even the smallest tip could lead to an investigation and finding Penny’s current location,” Muir said.
“We’re really stretching our resources to search that last known area,” Muir said. “We believe there’s a chance she’s further away from where we’re focusing our search right now.”
Although there is a rule against phones, Wise’s parents discovered she had hidden one before she disappeared.
Her parents said that Penelope had occasionally left the house for short periods of time, but never for more than a few hours.
“Our number one priority is her safety,” said Mishael Wise, Penelope’s mother. “We love her and care for her very much, and just want her to reach out to someone, anyone, to let us know she’s OK.”
A $1,000 Reward is offered to anyone who knows where she is.
The young lady, who struggles with mental health issues, has left the house briefly before, but according to her parents never for more than a few hours.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with a tip on Wise’s whereabouts to contact them
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said they do not suspect foul play at this time and said she left on her own. However, as the days go by, Muir said he is becoming more and more concerned.
“We’re going to treat this case like it’s the newest case we have. We’re going to devote resources to it and we’re not going to pull those resources out until we know where Penny is,” Muir said.
