Edwina Bartholomew’s priceless reaction as newly-minted Sunrise host Matt Shirvington rings in his 45th birthday on air with a childish Star Wars cake
Matt Shirvington celebrated his 45th birthday live on Sunrise on Wednesday and his colleagues brought him a Star Wars-themed cake to mark the occasion.
He was chatting with co-stars Nat Barr, Mark Berretta and Edwina Bartholomew when Nat, 55, had a crew member bring over the elaborately designed birthday cake.
But while Shirvo, Nat and Mark were all smiles as the cake was placed on the table in front of them, Edwina looked noticeably less impressed.
The news anchor was seen frowning awkwardly as she watched Matt excitedly cut into his sci-fi themed pastry.
However, Shirvo seemed absolutely delighted with the unique pastry treat and was quick to thank his colleagues for the thoughtful gift.

Earlier this month, Matt wrote opened up about the challenges of his new role as Channel Seven’s co-host Sunrise.
The former athlete revealed his son cried when he couldn’t attend the school Father’s Day breakfast last month due to his new working hours.

‘We have our challenges. We have our difficult days. We have our good days,” Matt told TV Tonight.
‘Some days you would love to be at Father’s Day breakfast and you don’t get a chance to be there.
“It’s hard, it’s heartbreaking when your child is crying in the backseat of the car saying, ‘I wish you were there, Dad,'” he said.

Matt was crowned David Koch’s successor at Sunrise in June, following a three-year plan to prepare him for the top job.
Natalie Barr, who co-hosts the morning show with the Olympic sprinter, said she has known him for years because they “saw each other at events and always got along.”
‘He’s the type of guy who just fits in. He’s a very nice, normal guy with a crazy sense of humor,” she said.
The former athlete enjoyed a decade-long career at Foxtel, including stints at Sky News and Fox Sports before moving to Seven in 2020.
