A woman is accused of stabbing her mother to death before ending her own life in an alleged murder-suicide and firefighters find both bodies inside her charred home.

Emergency services responded to the house on Emerald St, in the south-west Adelaide suburb of Edwardstown, around 5am on Monday following reports of a fire.

The flames were contained to a single room in the house and after firefighters extinguished the fire, police officers found the bodies of two women inside.

The mother and daughter lived together in the house, which was owned by a community housing provider called Your Place Housing.

It is understood that the daughter was struggling with a mental health condition and her mother was caring for her at home when the attack occurred. the advertiser informed.

CIB Southern District Chief Detective Inspector Kieran Baggoley said the dead were related and officers were not looking for anyone else.

A 20-person Metropolitan Fire Service crew extinguished the fire in just under 10 minutes.

Major crime detectives were on the scene Monday, along with forensic and patrol officers.

He said the smoke had traveled through the “majority of the house” and the damage was estimated at around $100,000.
