EDF quietly axes quarterly billing option

EDF quietly scraps quarterly billing option: households move to monthly utility bills

EDF has tacitly withdrawn quarterly billing as a payment option for customers.

The energy giant says residential customers will transition to monthly billing, which is a blow to thousands of households.

Money Mail reader Patrick Hoyle says, “EDF has removed an important, reasonable method of payment in a time of high prices – it hits cash flow and means extra administration.”

One of the main benefits of quarterly requirements is that the bill is sent just before payment is due, giving customers a few days to verify that the bill is correct and to request it if it is not.

It gives customers more time to make sure they have enough money and they don’t have to worry about money being taken out of their account every month.

It is also popular with people who pay by check.

An EDF spokesperson says: “Customers have been notified of this change and reassured prices are not changing.

‘Monthly invoicing allows customers to budget more easily and reduces the risk of shocking bills.’

Few energy suppliers now offer quarterly payments, although British Gas still does.
