He said he saw someone hit by the car, but only realized it was his granddaughter when he rushed over to help.
“She was lying there unconscious and not moving, so I just talked to her and talked to her,” he said Nine News.
“The next moment she started gurgling and coughing up some blood and I knew she was alive.”
Photos of the aftermath showed the dented yellow MG3 with a smashed right windshield.
Shaylee will remain in a coma until the doctors know the full extent of her brain injury.
She also had a hole made in her head to reduce the swelling.
Mr Scicluna took to social media on Wednesday and said ‘it’s just a waiting game’ for now, adding that he believed the girl would make it.
The teen was crossing the road with a friend to go to IGA when the horror collision happened.
“Apparently they came over… they just played chicken with the car, and the chicken lost, well, she hasn’t lost yet,” Mr Scicluna said. 7News.
The distraught grandfather said he was driving his car when he saw the collision and rushed to help – unaware it was his granddaughter.
“She was lying on her side, she wasn’t responding… I actually thought she was dead,” he said.
Mr Scicluna said he forgives the female driver who was not injured, adding that accidents like this happen ‘too often’ and children should be wary of the road.
‘I really hope [the driver’s] Agree. I comforted her. She was hysterical. . .’ he told the Western Australian.

He said he saw the girl covered in blood and going “in and out of consciousness.”
The girl’s mother, Stacey Stafford, who has stayed by the teen’s bedside day and night, said she is receiving the best possible care.
“Shaylee is a fighter and I know she has the strength to overcome her injuries,” she said.
Meanwhile, trauma doctors provide specialist care to Shaylee with a dedicated ICU nurse monitoring her around the clock.
A spokeswoman for Perth’s Royal Hospital told Daily Mail Australia the girl is in a serious condition.
