Eden Hazard admits Cristiano Ronaldo’s healthy lifestyle ‘would have burned him out’ insisting he’d rather have ‘played cards and had a beer’ after training instead of soaking in an ice bath

Eden Hazard has admitted he would have been ‘burned out’ if he had followed Cristiano Ronaldo’s crazy training and recovery plans.

The Portuguese superstar is known for having some of the most intense fitness regimes in the world, and for many football stars he is the pinnacle of physical achievement and continues to play at the highest level at the age of 38.

Hazard, meanwhile, announced his retirement from professional football last year after being released by Real Madrid.

Ronaldo would leave the Spanish giants a year before Hazard moved to the club in 2019. Looking back on his career, the former Belgium international spoke out about whether he would have liked to have had the Portuguese superstar’s mentality.

‘No. It wouldn’t have been me,” Hazard said L’Equipe.

‘Laying in the cold bath for an hour after training, no. Leave me alone, with my friends, we’ll go home, play cards, have a beer.

‘I play for two hours with my friends. Children in the garden. It was my recovery. If I had been like Cristiano, I would have burned out.”

Mail Sport previously delved into Ronaldo’s crazy training plan, which saw the Al-Nassr striker eat six mini meals every day, nap between training sessions and spend time in his £50,000 cryotherapy chamber.

Meanwhile, upon his retirement, Hazard admitted he was looking forward to spending more time with friends and his family away from football.

He was also recently reunited with the Swansea ballboy he once infamously kicked while playing for Chelsea in 2013.

Charlie Morgan, now worth £40million thanks to his vodka empire, was recently pictured with the 33-year-old former professional of his alcoholic drinks brand Au Vodka, with the pair holding a green drink while also playing golf.

After leaving Chelsea, Hazard struggled for playing time at Real Madrid, where he made just 76 appearances while scoring just seven goals. Despite this, he still managed to win six titles, including the Champions League, LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

When asked if a move to Madrid was the right move for him, Hazard replied: ‘I’ve been a Zidane fan since I was a child. The Bernabeu, the white kit… it has a charm that others don’t have. Madrid is special.

‘Besides that, I don’t think I belong. It doesn’t suit me. It’s a bit of a “swaggering” club and I’m not like that. I also didn’t like the way we played, if you compare it to other clubs. But it was my dream. I couldn’t finish my career without coming here.”
