EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Fresh from the Traitors Castle, Claudia Winkleman goes punk with a homage to rocker Iggy Pop

Claudia Winkleman’s much-admired wardrobe for hit BBC One show The Traitors cost more than £8,000 for just three episodes. But now that the gripping series is over, she has turned her back on designer clothes.

When visiting the fashionable River Cafe in West London, the 51-year-old presenter wore a beige hat and a cool black puffa jacket, with an image of punk legend Iggy Pop on the back.

Lust For Life singer Iggy isn’t the only cultural figure to have influenced the Strictly Come Dancing co-host’s wardrobe. “For strictly speaking it was Elvis – just as an inspiration, not literally,” she has explained. ‘And for Traitors it was Princess Anne meeting Ronnie Corbett and Madonna when she married Guy Ritchie.’

It looks like she won’t run out of options anytime soon…

Baby No. 3 for Harry’s school friend and wife Daisy

When the Duchess of Sussex was guest editor of Vogue, her husband interviewed the celebrated primatologist Dame Jane Goodall.

During their conversation, Prince Harry talked about saving the planet and the number of children he wanted, “two, maximum” – which was interpreted by some as an attack on Prince William and Catherine, who have three. Clearly not all of Harry’s friends share his views on population control.

Charlie van Straubenzee, a friend of Prince Harry since high school in Ludgrove, is looking forward to the birth of his third child. His wife, Daisy Jenks, is heavily pregnant

I hear that Charlie van Straubenzee, a friend since high school in Ludgrove, is looking forward to the birth of his third child. His wife, Daisy Jenks, is heavily pregnant.

Investment banker Charlie is one of the few friends who has kept in touch with Harry since he moved to California. The van Straubenzees stayed with the Sussexes in Montecito in 2022.

Van Straubenzee was an usher at Harry and Meghan’s wedding in Windsor, while the prince was best man a few months later when Charlie married Daisy, an event videographer. Van Straubenzee is said to be the godfather of the couple’s son, Archie.

The clever set talks about… the bold portrait of Lady Newport

Already established as the aristocracy’s most innovative couple, Viscount and Viscountess Newport manage to gain their parents’ approval for their engagement via video link. They continue to break new ground.

Just three months after announcing Latvian-born Eliza Newport’s pregnancy – and the fact that her firstborn will be a son and heir – the couple has announced that Eliza will have her portrait painted by Clementine Teniqua Crawford.

Just three months after announcing Eliza Newport’s pregnancy, the couple has announced that she will have her portrait painted by Clementine Teniqua Crawford.

While it’s now almost routine for expectant mothers to get haircuts while cradling a baby bump, Eliza, 33, puts herself in a whole different league. “It takes up to 30 hours to draw live at Clementine’s studio in Kensington,” says a friend, adding: “Eliza was introduced to Clementine’s work through a mutual friend.

‘She loved her depiction and celebration of the female form and use of natural light.’

Perhaps the Newports will present the portrait to Alexander’s father, the Earl of Bradford, who last year described Alexander as ‘retired’ – only for Richard Bradford, 76, to assure me that, far from being retired, he was immersed in a new project growing mangoes and avocados in Ghana.

(Very) modern manners

Some women want a man with a chiseled appearance; others are looking for a boyfriend with a good sense of humor. Aristocratic TV chef Gizzi Erskine is turned on by a man who enjoys getting into the organs of a slaughtered animal.

“I appreciate you more when you eat offal,” declares the daughter of the 2nd Lord Erskine of Rerrick, sharing a recipe for liver and bacon online. ‘I just do it. I think it’s sexy and red-blooded. It’s so good for you too.’

Model Alice finds love with skater ‘hero’

Her grandfather, ‘Black Jack’ Dellal, once lost £1.7 million in one night at a Monte Carlo casino in 2006. But has Alice Dellal played her cards right when it comes to finding love?

I hear the model and photographer, 36, is dating Charlie Birch, 25, a professional skateboarder from Liverpool, who she calls her ‘hero’.

Birch seems to be enjoying life in the capital. “There’s a lot more going on in London, I think,” he says.

‘There are a lot of events happening. It seems like every weekend it’s someone’s birthday.’

Prue breasts over medal

Prue Leith is keen to show off the lady status bestowed upon her by the late Queen Elizabeth in 2021. But where she chose to display her badge led to much hooting.

Invited to an ambassador dinner in Mayfair, the Bake Off judge says: ‘I thought, ‘Okay, I’m going to wear this thing’. I had a black dress and I thought it would look great. Still, the neckline was quite revealing, so I thought, ‘I’ll wear this big thing (medal) there’ (she points to her chest), and that did its job – which made me not look so immodest.

‘However, I had barely walked two yards into the party when a man came up to me and said, ‘You can’t wear your lady’s haircut there – it has to be on your left shoulder.’

“And I thought, ‘Stupid old fart, I’m not going to pay attention to it.’ I walked another two meters and another guy said the same thing: ‘You can’t do that,’ so I had to move it to my left shoulder.”

He recently stated that the Rolling Stones would not sell their back catalogue, explaining: “The kids don’t need $500 million to live well.” But could Sir Mick Jagger, 80, who has raised eight children by five different women, have reason to reconsider?

I ask because his son Gabriel, 26, the youngest of his four with Texas supermodel Jerry Hall, is burning the cash at Whynow, the digital magazine he founded in 2019. Figures show the trade deficit rose to £6.6m last year – up from £3.7m in 2022.
