  • Cameron remained the undisputed super lightweight champion with her victory
  • Taylor lost for the first time as a professional in her homecoming fight in Dublin

Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Katie Taylor and Chantelle Cameron will fight again in Dublin this fall.

Taylor, fighting as a professional in Ireland for the first time, lost her undefeated record as Cameron took a well-deserved majority victory.

Cameron got the nod from two of the judges with scores of 96-94, while the other scored a tie at 95-95.

The 32-year-old, who remains undefeated at 18-0 with a career-best win, also remains the undisputed champion in super-lightweight, certainly putting herself in pound-for-pound battles now.

However, Cameron will have to do it all over again as Hearn immediately confirmed that Taylor has a rematch clause that they intend to trigger.

Speaking to DAZN, Hearn – the promoter of the fight – said: ‘I want to congratulate Katie and Chantelle on showing what boxing is all about.

β€œIt was a fight that could have gone either way, but I think the result was good.

‘There is a rematch clause and we want to do it again in the autumn. There’s only one thing on Katie’s mind and that’s a rematch.’ Hearn also indicated that the rematch will be in Dublin again.

Taylor, meanwhile, admitted she expected the fight to be challenging as she moved up from lightweight, where she remains the undisputed champion.

The 36-year-old, who on many occasions has ruled out the possibility of an imminent retirement, insisted she looks forward to the rematch.

“I expected a grueling fight and it was,” said Taylor. β€œI clearly fell short. I always like a challenge and look forward to the rematch.

“This is not how I wanted the homecoming to go, but I’m thankful this event was able to sell out in minutes.”

Cameron insisted after the fight that she wants to leave Taylor and compete for other belts, but that will have to wait for now. Just like Taylor’s rematch against Amanda Serrano.

The champion also revealed she was nervous about being robbed of the result, after claiming in the run-up to the fight that Taylor had been the beneficiary of generous scores in the past.

“I was terrified β€” I’ve seen results go the other way in the past,” Cameron said. β€œIt was a close fight and Katie is a great boxer, pound for pound the best. My strength is the pressure. I don’t mind getting hit, so my corner let me off the belt.

“She’s so fast and tough. She is one of the best boxers out there. i beat [Jessica] McCaskill at 147 last fight and now I just beat another undisputed champion. I’m tired of keeping my belts, I want to go for more belts.

‘Incredible atmosphere. It’s a pity she [the fans] didn’t support me, but Katie has a great following. I’ve pitted my belts against the pound-for-pound best, so obviously I’ve got guts.”
