Ed Sheeran labels Australian singer ‘an amazing songwriter and performer’ in surprising post
Ed Sheeran has posted a glowing message on social media praising the iconic Australian singer.
The 33-year-old English rock star appeared in an Instagram video where he admitted he has been a huge fan of indie pop star Missy Higgins, 41, since her first album in 2004.
“I’ve been a huge fan of Missy Higgins ever since I was 13 and discovered her album The Sound of White,” Ed told his fans.
“It was a groundbreaking album from my childhood and teenage years. She’s just an amazing songwriter and performer.”
Ed then spoke enthusiastically about his 2018 Australian tour, where Missy was his opening act and sang several duets with him on stage, to thousands of screaming fans.
“I got to take her on the Divide Tour and it was just a joy to see her every night. I’m excited to hear her new music!”
Ed and Missy’s music has a lot in common: they both regularly release pop rock ballads about love and relationships.
Missy’s sixth studio album – her first since 2018 – called The Second Act, was released on Friday.

Ed previously admitted he was a fan of the singer, having spotted her during a family holiday in Australia when he was 13.
After seeing her perform at a concert at the Sydney Opera House, the red-haired Englishwoman fell in love with the Australian singer.
Ed told Nova in 2012 that Missy was “one of my first big crushes.”
Missy took the compliment to heart, telling the newspaper, “I think it’s awesome that a 13-year-old Ed Sheeran is listening to my music. It’s so cool.”

She also said: ‘He’s the greatest singer-songwriter in the world and while I don’t think anyone would dare say that he influenced him, it’s still amazing when someone tells you that your music has inspired them in some small way.’
Since bursting onto the music scene in 2004, the Melbourne-born singer has become one of the country’s most beloved stars, selling over a million records and earning multiple ARIAs.
Since 2003 she has been releasing music and acting. In 2010 she starred in the Australian film Bran Nue Dae.
