Ed McVey portrays Prince William on his way to university while filming the sixth series of The Crown in Hampshire
The momentum towards a proper conclusion continued on Monday as principal photography for the sixth and final series of The Crown began in Winchester.
The increasingly divisive Netflix drama, which chronicles more than half a century of the true story, filmed scenes in the Hampshire town with young star Ed McVey.
The 21-year-old theater-trained actor will play Prince William throughout his teens and early twenties after taking the role from previous titular Senan West.
It was a period of transition for Royal, who would move to the prestigious University of St. Andrews in Fife after completing his studies at Eton College in 2001.
And with cameras rolling on Monday, Winchester appeared to be doubling down on the exclusive Windsor school where William earned A-Levels in geography, biology and art history before continuing his education in Scotland.
Silence on set: Ed McVey got into character on Monday as he prepared to play a young Prince William in new scenes for the upcoming sixth season of The Crown – the new season follows the royals in the late ’90s and early of the 2000s.
Wearing a striped rugby shirt and the same bouncy bangs that William sported in his youth, McVey was seen preparing for his last scenes with a bevy of extras.
While the actor plays an older William, 16-year-old Rufus Kampa will also play the Prince at a different stage in his life, depicting his teenage years by showing how he and the royal family coped with the death of Princess Diana.
McVey will star alongside Meg Bellamy, who has been cast as the future Princess of Wales Kate Middleton.
While Bellamy doesn’t have official acting credits to his name, both McVey and Kampa have a lot more experience.
McVey, who will take on the Prince in the early 2000s with scenes showing how he fell in love with fellow Art History student Kate, graduated from Drama Center London in 2021.

The final two series of The Crown will cover the history of the royal family throughout the 1990s and up to 2003, however it is not yet known which moments will be seen.
In July, it was reported that a change to The Crown’s ending sparked rumors of a follow-up that leaves open the possibility of a sequel based on Charles, William and Harry and could even feature Megxit.
Netflix bosses have urged showrunner Peter Morgan, 59, to take the royal family story further, and now, the creators have altered the series 6 finale, The Sun reports.
Season 5 of the Netflix hit aired on November 9, while season 6 was to be the final installment in the Windsor story and would air next year.

Look away please, there’s nothing to see here – cameras rolled as Winchester appeared to double as Windsor, the home of Eton College.
Series 6 was originally supposed to conclude in 2002, being the year the Queen lost her sister Princess Margaret as well as her mother, but 2005 is now set to be the new completion date.
And this will be with the wedding of Charles and Camilla, ‘marking the beginning of an era’.
This change from last year could leave room for a sequel in the story that could delve deeper into Prince Charles and his sons, Princes William and Harry.
