Easy kitchen cleaning hacks: how to clean your greasy, grimy oven with bi-carb soda and water

A mom has come up with a simple, no-chemical hack that leaves her oven sparkling clean.

The thrifty woman used nothing but baking soda and water for the job because she “can’t handle harsh chemicals.”

She said she just wiped the oven with a wet rag, sprinkled some bi-carb soda on top, let it sit, and rinsed the powder off with wipes.

β€œIt took a little elbow grease, but it was super easy. I am so surprised,” she said in a message to the Mothers who clean Facebook group.

The woman said she has tried to keep her oven as clean as possible without using strong detergents. She admitted that they “work really well.”

“This morning I tried the bi-carb soda trick on my oven door and couldn’t believe how easy it was…and no harsh chemicals,” she said.

“I just wiped it with a wet cloth and sprinkled bi-carb all over, let it sit for about 15 (minutes) and started wiping it down slowly with wet wipes.”

Despite needing some good rubbing, she said she was “impressed” with the method which was “super easy” and joked that she hoped it wasn’t “accidental coincidence.”

The mom added that the oven was cold when she cleaned it, but the trick could work with a warmer oven to loosen the grease, especially if it hasn’t been cleaned in a while.

‘Thanks for sharing this! I’m trying to clean a bond while seven months pregnant with two toddlers. I’m definitely going to try this!’ a mother responded to the post.

Chantel cools the oven until it’s warm and sprinkles baking soda over the surface to “make scrubbing easy.”

She dips a microfiber cloth into the cooled lemon water and wipes away the greasy grime with ease.

‘I like this tip. I hate cleaning ovens. Mine really needs to be done,” one mother said.

“I have to do this after this week’s vacation!” added another.

“How often do you deep clean because your oven is spotless?” asked a third to which Chantel replied, “I do a deep clean about every quarter (four times a year) and then this process in between.”

For a deeper clean, Chantel said she uses her homemade “power paste,” which can also be used in bathrooms and other areas of the kitchen.

She mixes a cup of baking soda with a third cup of dish soap and a third cup of water.

The mom also adds a few drops of essential oil to make her home smell great, but said it was an optional ingredient.

Chantel stirs to make a paste, then pour the mixture into an airtight squeeze bottle.

“This mix is so powerful at removing stubborn stains and limescale,” she explained, adding that it has great “scrubbing power” and is perfect for areas that “need a little more elbow grease.”
