Eastern Temple and ‘Let’s Play a Game’ quest walkthrough for Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

The Eastern Temple is a mini dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom which is the home of the “Let’s play a game‘side quest. You must defeat the monster in the temple for the archaeologist Sago, who wants to continue his work there.

In this Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom In the guide, we’ll show you how to get through the Eastern Temple and complete the ‘Let’s Play a Game’ quest, including how to defeat the temple boss, Smog.

Location of the Eastern Temple and how to start ‘Let’s Play a Game’

Head to the Eastern Temple, which is appropriately located east of Hyrule Castle.

At the entrance you will meet Sago, who tells you that he wants to do some archaeological work in the temple, but that he has heard a strange voice asking him to play a game and fears that there are monsters inside. You need to get rid of that monster so he can do his job.

Right at the entrance to the Eastern Temple, you’ll be greeted by two sparks moving in sync around a pair of pillars. Sparks don’t damage Zelda, but they temporarily stun her and push her backwards.

You can use obstacles to push the sparks off the path and allow you to pass, or you can defeat them with enemy echoes at a distance. If you do that, you can get the Spark echowhich will come in handy later. Anyway, move forward to go deeper into the temple.

In this room there are three sparks and a cube-shaped mechanism in the corner. If you watch for a few seconds (while avoiding the sparks!) you will see that one of the sparks enters the mechanism and causes it to light up.

You need to get the other two sparks into the cube to open the door. You can do this by grabbing them with Bind. It may be easier to tell the time if you trap them between two obstacles first. Go through the opened door to reach the next room.

In this room you also need to change the path of the sparks so that they enter the cube. First, make a step up to the boulder and small wall on the north side of the room using a table. Then grab one of the sparks marked X and climb these makeshift stairs.

Once the sparks are at the height level of the cube, you can release them and they will eventually cross the cube. Go through the door that is now open.

In this room there are two sparks guarding a chest. Since you can’t remove them there with Bind, you can use a remote enemy echo like a spear moblin to defeat them. The Spear Moblin’s accuracy isn’t great against a moving enemy, but he’ll get them eventually!

Open the chest to get five rock salt and then go down the ladder on the west side of this room.

This 2D room has some sparks spinning around the top platforms and a caromadillo on the floor. Defeat the caromadillo using an enemy echo to get the Caromadillo Echo Lv. 2. You can then defeat the sparks or move past them with careful timing to enter the next room on the right.

In this chamber the sparks enter the water, electrifying a small beam around it. However, they are not that difficult to avoid. Swim to the bottom of the pool to open a chest 50 rupees into it and then continue to the right. Be sure to pause if a spark should cause you to collide with avoiding the rock, but you should be able to climb out the other side without too much trouble. Climb down the stairs to enter the next room.

This is a bit of a breather, with two pots to break, but no enemies.

How to defeat Smog, the boss of the Eastern Temple

Entering this room will begin the Eastern Temple boss fight, called an electric cloud Smog.

Smog will move through this maze-like area and shoot lightning balls at you. Swordsman form won’t be of much use here, as Smog can electrocute Zelda via the sword.

Summon distant enemy mobs such as the spear moblinat intersections to be able to photograph smog properly. You can also tie him short so he has a little more time to take a photo. This will also reverse the direction of Smog.

After three hits, Smog will give up the “round” and break into three smaller pieces. You’ll need to keep an eye on their patterns and interrupt and block them with boulders to get them to recombine before you can deal any more damage to him.

Once Smog is whole again, repeat the steps to split it again, this time into five pieces. Reduce these areas to one giant smog again while avoiding electricity. Note that the one on the top right is stuck and you have to push the rock aside to free it.

Now all you have to do is hit Smog three more times with enemy echo attacks and you’ve completed this boss fight! You get a lot of them Rupees and a Heart piece as a reward. And you’ll be teleported back to East Temple Room #1 so you can go outside and tell Sago the good news.

Sago gives you one old charm reducing the amount of damage you take while wearing it. This completes the ‘Let’s Play a Game’ quest.

After completing this quest, if you’re far enough into the game to complete the Faron Wetlands canyon, you can start the ‘Cotton Candy Hunt’ quest at the Hidden Ruins, which follows from this one.
