An actress who left the world of BBC soaps 15 years ago returns to the channel in a surprising new role in a different show.
Kellie Shirley used to appear in EastEnders playing Carly Wicks, the daughter of Shirley Carter.
She was on the soap for two years until Carly went on a trip and although she briefly reprized her role in 2012, she hasn’t been on the show since.
After a number of other acting roles, Kellie returns to soap operas and the BBC.
She will be seen in Doctors as Jo McLennon starting next month.

Her character struggles with agoraphobia and is housebound and Dr. Al (Ian Midlane) will realize the problems she faces when he visits her.
The dramatic storyline continues with her sons facing their own difficulties.
Her son Freddie will not show up for school and it will also be revealed that his brother Conor is battling his own demons and struggling with drugs.
Kellie’s appearance in Doctors comes after she last appeared on the show in 2016.
It comes after Kellie revealed her baby boy’s adorable name following the birth of her third child last month.
The star announced that she and husband Phil Davies have named their bundle of joy, Ezra Cilian.
The baby boy was born at King’s College Hospital in London, the same place as her twins Pearl and Louis, seven.
Speak against OK! magazine, the actress revealed that the birth was a lot easier than last time and looking at Ezra now makes her forget all the stressful moments of exhaustion.
She said, “It’s so all-consuming. You are so full of love – and knackered! – but you get those moments where Ezra does what looks like a smile and you forget you’ve been up since 3am. It’s just delicious.

“The last time I went to 9cm and got an infection, it was so crazy. It was a completely different experience to go in with my bag, knowing that he would be born that day.’
Kellie said she asked the nurses to “turn on the radio for the delivery” and that her baby boy was “born from Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black” which she loves.
The soap star took to Instagram last month to announce that she and husband Phil Davies had welcomed their bundle of joy.
By sharing an adorable photo of her little one, the star let her know the big news.
